“Pretty happy with our stay”
Reviewed August 11, 2010

We stayed for 3 nights at the Korona, and were pretty happy with our stay. As other reviews have stated, most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. It's somewhat annoying though, if you're in the second building, that you have to come into the main building and cross over.

The swimming pool has very limited hours, so if this is a decider for you, be careful. It's closed completely on Mondays.

When we checked in, we were put in a room with two single beds - when queried down in the lobby, they very quickly agreed to transfer us to a new room, but that one wouldn't be available until the next night. We had to make do, but first thing the next morning they did indeed move us.

The staff on in the very early hours of the morning where also great - there was a bunch of rowdy US and UK guys in the lobby, making a god awful racket, banging on doors and shouting. To the hotels' credit, they came up immediately and sorted it out, and it went very quiet after that.

We would stay here again for sure. It's not a massively upscale hotel, but reasonable value for money, if you don't pay full rack rate.

Recommended by a collague, we experience two great stays in this Hotel. Close to the centre and a lot to be seen in surrounds. Very friendly and helpful staff (ALL STAFF!!) and perfect family rooms. The kids enjoyed the swimming pool and there was convenient parking nearby. Solid value for money and powerful wifi. Will be back here!

This hotel is perfectly located. The hotel employees are friendly. Especially the younger ones. The bit older ones could not produce a smile on their face. The room need a tune up. The climate in the room was bad. Stuffy air. The bed was too soft for our preferences. However the baby bed was good.

The food at the restaurant was fine and the prices are acceptabel. Breakfast a bit poor for our personal preferences.

Stayed here last week with a group tour i was on. The best way to describe this hotel is old and tired. The rooms were tiny and dark. They were borderline clean...for example, it looked like no one had swept/vacuumed under the beds since the communists left.

The hotel has a reasonbly good location near the city center and the central market. The public areas (lobby, etc.) were OK. Breakfast was acceptable.

This hotel is in serious need of an up-dating. Until then, find another.

The location of the Mercure korona is good, however the reception staff who we met on arrival are most unhelpful, unfriendly and are unable to force a smile for their European guests, or anyone for that matter~~. THe hotel is basic but very expensive compared to other four star hotels. Staff seem very unhappy in their roles and this pervades the whole atmosphere. There are other hotels that would welcome the euro, dollar or other currency with a smile and a genuine helping hand.

Very Small Rooms. Only one free TV English speaking Channel. No kettle or free Internet (Net is for 9 euro/day) in standard rooms. (Queue for 3 PCs in the lobby or buy Vodaphone ; just across the street, SIM + USB modem if you are staying for 5 days or need the net in private or for long times)
You need to navigate several lifts and corridors to reach rooms in Wing B.
Breakfast is good but relatively very expensive (If you have time, you catch something from a nearby bakery, fresh fruits from the great nearby Mall. Coffee shops are every where. (Buy a traveler's Kettle better). I did not come across a concierge. It is only front disk staff. If they are busy, don't expect a detailed friendly answer or explanation. But they are helpful for a rapid telegraphic advice.
Soap and Shampoos are not of good quality, they are not replaced or refilled except you remove.

Overall good, typical 4 star hotel. Efficient staff during check in and out. Location excellent, close to Danube and main attractions (metro station just outside the hotel). Hotel OK, rooms rather small but clean and well maintained. No tea/coffee facilities in room. Free internet via computers located in the lobby of the hotel.
