“Fantastic location with excellent views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 18, 2010

we have just returned from spending 6 days at the Intercontinental Hotel in Budapest and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
We upgraded to the Club membership as the Club lounge is very good and you can have drinks, teas and coffee anytime during the day with drinks and light snacks in the evening. It also includes breakfast either in the lounge or at the main breakfast restaurant on the ground floor. We preferred the main breakfast restaurant as it has a fantastic selection of food for breakfast.
The view from our room (724) was superb - accross the Danube to the Castle - well worth an upper level view room if you can organsie in advance!
The health club is excellent and the steam room and heated pool wereparticularly refreshing after walking the streets. It relaly is a city that needs lost of walking to enjoy teh architecture and feel of this vibrant city.

Service is wonderful and the bed is comfortable, but it seems the more you pay, the less you get. Internet was not free even in the business center and hotel breakfast is 28€. Nice location and enough space in the room. Our thermostat did not work and the fan made noise, but we were told there was nothing to do but turn it off--no repair and we were not offered another room.
The room has a tub, which is great and the hotel is right on the Danube. You can walk to many restaurants and sights, or you are not far from the tram.

Beautiful view of the Buda hills and castle. Super friendly staff! My husband had emailed Milos (so nice!) ahead of our trip asking for a view, if possible. We were so pleasantly surprised with a beautiful upgraded room with a view for our 25th anniversary! I was so happy to come back to that view after walking all over Budapest. Highly recommend this place!....although, yes, they do need to lower their internet charges.

The hotel is exceptional from room cleanliness, to the bountiful morning buffet. The staff however make The Intercontinental my preferred destination when travel to Budapest is required.

Beata in the concierge extended her shift time to ensure the communication gaps between Airtalia and Delta were bridged to recover and arrange for prompt delivery of my delayed luggage. This would have taken me hours to accomplish without her assistance and as you all know time is money.

Thanks you Beata and Intercontinental staff for such a pleasant stay.

I chose this hotel due to the reviews on this site and the managers proactive way of responding to customers.
This hotel is perfect!
The staff efficient and friendly, the rooms are outstanding with the best bed I have ever had the pleasure to sleep in. But best of all is the location and view out of your window (if you are lucky enough to have a river view) Wow, Wow, Wow!!!
We also spent one night in the Kempinski (due to business) and while this is a nice hotel, it does not compare to the IC.
If you are going to Budapest - stay at this hotel!

There is not a great deal to add to the large number of previous reviews...

The service is good, the concierge was impressive in handling somewhat out of the ordinary requests, and the room was comfortable and provided all necessary amenities. If I had a quibble about the standard room, it would be the rather small sized bathroom. Also, not all rooms have a river/castle view, unlike the Marriott next door. However, overall the rooms at the Intercontinental have a slightly classier feel than its Marriott neighbour.

The small swimming pool area serves a purpose, but is too small to swim lengths so lacks purpose really - it would be more beneficial to add a jacuzzi which this leisure centre is sorely lacking. That said, this is a minor point as the Marriott next door only has a sauna and steam room.

Expectations should be managed dependent upon the rate you are paying as this hotel subscribes to the various "secret" type sites. If you are paying such low rates there is definitely nothing whatsoever to complain about. If you are paying published rates one might have a slightly different opinion. Not so much in the sense that the service/facilities will no longer be acceptable, more that you could be staying in any European city. There is very little (save the cuisine) that makes one feel as if they are in Budapest. The building is a 60/70s monstrosity, and the interior is ultra impersonal and international in style. If you are looking for something really special, this isn't the property for you; if you're looking for a good value, comfortable, centrally located place to stay this fits the bill perfectly.

You can read 200 reviews about how nice the view is from your hotel room, but nothing can prepare you for actually seeing it. The hotel is top-notch in every way but one - I was not a big fan of paying 25 Euros a day for wired internet in my room Other than that, the room was big, modern, and comfortable. The staff and customer service cannot be beat anywhere. The location is truly perfect. You can't go wrong staying here.
