“Not good - apart from the view”
Reviewed August 1, 2005

I stayed for 7 nights with my husband in July and was disappointed. The service ranging from the concierge to the bar staff was mediocre. They made you feel as though they didn't want your business. I was especially disappointed by the staff at the bar. I went there 3 times and each time, they were very slow, sullen and did not even bother to smile at us. I think that is what was missing - a smile and sparkle here or there.
The location was superb, being on the Pest side, with a great view of the castle and near all transport.
The buffet breakfast was excellent with American, Japanese, European breakfast in abundance.

However, I wouldn't return to Budapest as I found the city lacked the buzz of Prague and the people unhelpful.

This hotel is located in a prime area of Budapest, on the Pest side of the Danube looking up at Monument Park and the Buda Castle; it's right at the foot of Chain Bridge. The views are excellent.

Shopping is wonderful for several blocks down the Vaci (a pedestrian street) just off the Promenade with many, many fine stores, shops and cafes. Within walking distance is Castle Hill where you can take the tram to the top of the hill. Also nearby is the Central Market with hordes of meat, vegetable, spice, alcohol, and souvenir booths with only the best quality.

The hotel staff was extremely helpful and the amenities were excellent. There was also a great restaurant and bar (the Corso) in the hotel; there's a beauty spa, business center, etc. on the property.

Highly recommended!!

I spent one night at the Intercontinental and would highly recommend it. It is better than the nearby Marriott (which is good), but not as good as the Gresham Palace, which is also nearby. The bedrooms are a good size with modern bathrooms. You pay a premium for a river/castle view, but it is worth it. The hotel was very full, particularly with coach parties touring Eastern Europe, however this wasn't obtrusive. There is a good but pricey bar near the reception.

Spent 3 nights at the Inter in late January2005 No complaints about the room, it was a good size and well furnished,Would not waste money on a river view as there are no balconies to sit out on, and the view from the lounge is pretty much the same but a bit lower down. The breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice.A taxi booked via the hotel to Buda was twice the price as the return booked by ourselves. Also the hotel minibus was twice the price as the one we booked through ----. We paid 10.000 fl each way for 8 of us which is about 3 pound per person per journey. The hotel was in a good location and I would stay there again if I could get the same deal. The staff were friendly and helpful which was more than most of the local bar owners,if there was a tax on smiles they would be due a big rebate.
We were lucky with the weather as we had sun and snow but even allowing for the time of year it was very quiet.
