We ended our Avalon River Cruise by staying in Budapest an extra night. As others have stated, this hotel is in a wonderful location. We checked in early and the king room we reserved was not ready for us so we took a room with two beds and no view, as we had spent a week on a Danube river cruise. If you have not spent time on a river cruise, I would suggest upgrading to a room with a view. Our room was OK but boring. AC didn't work that well.
The front desk/reception area was busy but very accommodating. Our extra day was on a Sunday so many stores were closed. Since we only had the one day to see the sites, we bought hop-on hop-off bus tickets at the hotel. After seeing the city on the bus, we wanted to eat at an outdoor restaurant. The hotel staff told us to walk a couple of blocks to the main pedestrian street, where all the stores and restaurants were open, and we sat outside and had an early dinner and people watched - we saw a lot of beautiful people. That evening we sat outside at the hotel patio and watched as the city became a city of lights. It is a magical and beautiful city at night! We had a 2:30 a.m. wake-up call to get to the airport by 4:30 a.m. The reception desk had a to-go box breakfast waiting for us.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view of the Danube.

Dear austin78669,
Thank you very much for taking your time describing your stay. I am happy that you found the location of the hotel wonderful and that an early check-in could add relevant time to your stay. I regret that you were bored in the room on the other side it makes me pleased that upon the staff direction you could find the lively area where shops and restaurants were open on Sunday, too. I am glad that we could contribute to your convenient dawn departure with a take-away box breakfast. I hope you take nice memories with you about Budapest and especially remember the magical illumination of city landscape architecture.
With best regards,
Claus Geisselmann

Six of us stopped by for a drink before boarding our river boat cruise. The service was slow and the staff were rude. We did not leave a tip and the waitress brought back the bill saying we had given them a 1000 huffs note instead of a 10000 huffs note - we didn't! We reluctantly gave them another 10000 note but know full well that we were ripped off.

Great location on the Pest side of the River Danube. Beautiful scenery sitting outside at breakfast time. Very good accommodation, good food and very helpful staff who made our stay in Budapest one never to forget. A lot of the Ferrari team staying here at the moment for the Hungarian Grand Prix. I think it would be very hard to find anything negative to say about this hotel.

We stayed here 2 nights at the beginning of an Avalon river cruise from Budapest to Bucharest. Very nice room facing the Danube. Lovely breakfast buffet and walking distance to Central Market in one direction and to the Parliament Bldg in the other. Nice staff. Nice restaurants nearby all along the Danube. Beautiful!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the Danube are an upgrade but worth the lovely scenery!

The InterContinental Budapest located on the banks of the Danube River is within easy walking distance of the Chain Bridge, the Parliament building and St. Stephen's Church. Or you can sit at the sidewalk cafe and watch the river traffic, tourists or view the spectacular buildings on the Buda side of the river.
The hotel has very comfortable rooms with wonderful beds and linens. Nice breakfast buffet and very accommodating staff.
Hop on the tram which stops right at the front of the hotel and take a nostalgic ride on an authentic aged tram to the huge downtown Market. Don't forget to buy Hungarian paprika!

Really amazing views across the Danube to the Buda side with the castle and churches beautifully lit in the evenings. Fluffy pillows (I left mine in the suitcase as it was surplus to requirement) and heavenly mattress. Strong powerful shower as well.

Dispite the fact that Intercontinental hotel is a huge one, the quality of the service is good. The location is excellent. Restaurants are fine, the meal is o.k. Internet is working good. Breakfast is at a nice level. Some improvments can be done in the line of refurbishing. The hotel is a little bit old.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view to Danube are excellent
