“GREAT Hotel”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

Intercontinental Budapest is one of the best hotels i have ever visit. Great location on the river just meters away from Chain Bridge which especially at night is very impressive. Totally worth it to book a room with a river view. Unbelievable vie especially if you book a room after fifth floor. The breakfast was one of the best i had ever tasted. Variety on food from omelets to sushi .
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were very nice and clean , spacious enough.

I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Choose the river view rooms. Great view

Just spent 4 days at this hotel and can report it's lovely! We upgraded to a 3rd floor room with view of the Danube. Cost 25 euros per room per night and it was so worth it. The view was incredible and quite breathtaking, one of the best I've experienced. We were extra lucky as it was Hungary's national day St Stephens Day when we were there (20 August) and there was lots going on! We saw all sorts of planes flying past low over the Danube, street markets with local crafts and foods, dancers in national costume, and the biggest firework display I've ever seen. Certainly recommend visiting Budapest on the country's national day! Back at the hotel, room was a good size & had very comfy big bed. Bathroom was quite small but it had everything you needed including hairdryer, toiletries, bathrobe and slippers. Breakfast provided a good selection, but unfortunately they ran out of breakfast tea! I have never known this before and did find it incredible that such a large hotel should run out of ordinary tea bags! Also the toaster was pretty ancient, took ages to toast a piece of bread, and then only toasted one side! Staffing was slow as we had to wait a long time for a glass for orange juice and a knife and fork. While we're on the low points, the staff performance in general was poor at times. There seemed to be an "attitude" leading me to think they don't like serving people much! To be fair, some staff members were very nice, friendly and helpful. But others were either a bit brusque with me, or ignored me completely. My husband found them all helpful, so maybe some just don't like serving women. Who knows! The good staff I met were on reception, handling our luggage, and cleaning our rooms - credit where credit's due. Wifi was expensive so we didn't use it. There is no need to charge for Wifi these days so it should be free to guests. Overall this is a very good hotel in an excellent location. I would have rated it "excellent" had it not been for the points I've mentioned. None of which, I should add, would put me off going to this hotel again. I'd go tomorrow if I could! Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a room with a view of the Danube River

Had a great stay at this hotel and would suggest that you book the river view rooms for about extra €25 as it is worth every penny. We managed to get an Upgrade to this room after being previously in opposite side of hotel, the river view is stunning and all other aspects of hotel were very good including breakfast, location and helpfulness, would go back in a minute.

Room Tip: get river view room.

We have just returned from a 6-night stay (Aug 26 - Sept 1) at the InterContinental Budapest and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the city. The location is perfect for all sightseeing, trams and boat trips, and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. We had a room at the side of the hotel and it was very well appointed with a very comfortable bed with a good duvet and pillows, all covered in good-quality cotton covers. The bathroom wasn't large but, again, well appointed with good quality towels, hair dryer and Elemis bath and hair products. The room was cleaned every day and tea, milk and coffee replenished. There was a fridge/mini-bar in the room so we were able to keep additional milk and water cold. We didn't opt for a room with a view of the Castle, but as this can be seen from the restaurant and terrace all evening we didn't feel we had missed out. Unless you intend to spend hours in the room we felt this was an unnecessary additional expense. Breakfast was excellent with a huge choice and the freshly-cooked omelettes were great. The English Breakfast tea was a little weak but we had taken tea-bags with us and just popped one of these into the pot. Service was efficient and friendly. We ate in the hotel restaurant once during our stay but were disappointed with the meal. The terrace is a great place to sit in the evenings with beautiful views of the Castle, Chain Bridge etc and all the staff were very friendly. All-in-all a lovely stay in a great hotel in a beautiful city.

stay here every time we are in Budapest. They treat us very well. Food is great. Rooms are immaculate. Staff is very accomodating. The best location for everything. One draw back....they need to get free in-room internet. It is very expensive and there are no free sites in the hotel. Its 2012 and they should get competetive in this area. Several coffee shops in area offer free internet service. Hotel restaurant will make you anything you ask for even if it is not on the menu. We love it here.

Room Tip: rooms facing the Danube are the best. Stay away from rooms near elevators. Too much traffic at all...

We have recently come back from a short stay at this hotel and were really impressed.
The location is just amazing........right on the river and so central for all the sights. If you can.....get a river view from your room.....we did and we reckon there is no better view in the whole of Budapest - you look out across the Danube, then up to the former Royal Palace and the Chain Bridge......all of which are beautifully lit at night.
However, the hotel was equally impressive. When we checked in, the staff were very attentive and efficient. We had a lovely room with this amazing view. It was clean, spacious and tastefully decorated with a sofa perfectly placed so you could take in that view!
The thing that impressed us was really how clean the room was - the taps etc were really gleaming. As soon as you left the room for the day, the staff were in and cleaning again - there was even a turn-down service where everything was cleaned yet again and toiletries replaced. A huge thank you to the housekeeping team for doing such a great job and making the room so nice to return to.
In reception, there are always loads of staff there to help - to open doors for you when you have your hands full, to carry your luggage, point you in the right direction.....and the concierge / information desk was a pleasure to deal with - so much information to hand and pleasant with it. We chose to visit a local thermal spa (the széchenyi thermal bath is a must is you get the chance!) and they arranged it for us, gave us 'queue jumping' tickets (it gets very busy!) and just added it to the bill.
We enjoyed Budapest so much that we decided to stay another night. All it took was a very quick call to the hotel's reception and when we passed through that evening they had the new room card waiting for us so we just swapped cards and carried on with our holiday - another example of the hotel's efficiency and great customer service.
I would highly recommend this hotel......for location it cant be beaten.....but its the service that really makes the difference.....clean comfortable and extremely helpful - would definitely go there again.

Room Tip: Get a river view.....its an amazing view

We stayed at the Intercontinental Budapest August 16-19, 2012 after a river cruise. We had a Danbube view with a king bed ... the view was stunning from our large, picture window! As well, the view continues on with front row seats in the restaurant, lounge and even coffee takeout stand!! Be sure to opt for the full breakfasts. The breakfasts were sumptious and the wait staff always extremely polite and accommodating. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom spacious and the decor of the room very nice. We liked the idea of two duvets ... one for each of us ... on the bed! They also had a pillow menu with some pillow options already in the closet. I heartily recommend this hotel.
