Reviewed October 1, 2013

I have stayed at this hotel in June 2013, while in Budapest for a conference. I found the hotel, room, and meeting rooms to be great. I really enjoyed the lobby and breakfast buffet area, with the great design of the "library" and the vintage airplane hanging from the ceiling. The color scheme of the hotel is very inviting.
I was given a corner room on the first floor (above the casino I think) which was very spacious.
My only issue is that for the first two nights of my stay there were loud bangs from the street below (dead-end going to the nearby plaza) It may have been the garbage truck, but its was annoying!

Room Tip: avoid first floor

We arrived in Budapest five days prior to our Viking River Cruise was looking for a hotel that was not only very nice but in a great location. This hotel totally hit the mark on both. We were on the Danube side of the hotel on the second floor with a fabulous view of the Chain Bridge and the Buda Castle. The views were spectacular both day and night. The location is perfect, central to everything. A short walk across the bridge to the Buda, a side short walk up the street to the great shopping area and there's even a convenience store across the block.
The desk staff and the concierge were excellent and provided great service.
The beds were so comfortable. We were very jetlagged when we arrived and we actually ended up sleeping 14 hours straight was wonderful.
I give this hotel my highest recommendation.

Room Tip: Get a room on the Danube River side.

As part f a large tour group, we had no choice - but were very happy with the Sofitel. Right at the Chain Bridge with views of. Fisherman's Bastion and Palace across Danube in Buda. Buses, taxis and even cars may have trouble dislodging passengers in this very congested square but otherwise it is a great location for walking with many shops, sites and restaurants nearby. Room relatively large, and especially a nice large bathroom with both shower and tub. Wifi free, coffee maker and mini bar in room. Excellent large buffet breakfast incl made to order omelets. Room quiet and comfortable. A few room have nice views of bridge, etc -about from #_12 to #_26 or so on each floor (higher the better). Popular for tour groups, so may get caught in line-up, and only 3 elevators so could get caught at checkin or breakfast waiting. Nice spa with exercise room, heated indoor pool, and sauna - massage available.

This hotel is a great choice for Budapest visitors. It is located right by the Danube and by a pedestrian shopping area. There is a convenient store right by the hotel if you need special provisions.
The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, and there was no charge for the internet. The restaurant was excellent ( Paris-Budapest). The chef is creative and uses fresh ingredients.

Down sides: the ventilation system is quite noisy and the hotel music is very annoying, especially at breakfast.
