“Could Not Be In A Better Location”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Our room overlooked a small square and the Danube River. The view was beautiful-- especially at night. There is an outdoor café attached to the hotel where a pleasant evening can be spent, enjoying the sights and sounds of this historic city. Breakfasts are hearty and good. Chain Bridge is close by and a river walk is just outside the hotel.

Really good location... Depends on the room you are in though.. I had paid for the Chain Bridge view but as we were a little early the room was not ready and they put us in a smaller luxury room with a view on the Intercontinental right in front of me!! Was not impressed. I asked to move and they did after waiting for our room to be ready - 45 mins..
The breakfast was way too expensive so ensure you go out there are plenty of places to eat that are much cheaper... Overall a nice stay

This is possibly the only hotel I have ever stayed in that I got a view room with a bus tour(Insight Vacations) and I have to say the view was spectacular of the the Chain Bridge and panorama of the city. The room was also very lovely and beds really comfortable. The included breakfast was fantastic and service very good. Great also to have WiFi in the room. If you can get a view room at this place you will not be disappointed!

It is hard to find fault with the Sofitel which, although sparsely populated at the time of our five night visit commencing on 7th April was, in the opinion of my wife and I, first class.

In an excellent location at the Chain Bridge, the hotel is well designed, modern and attractive.

Our room on the third floor (319), which contained a very comfortable bed provided spectacular views of the Danube, the Bridge and the National Museum across the river and was well insulated from street noise.

The room was ample in size and attractively furnished although more space for the storage of our clothing would have been welcome which could easily be accommodated by sacrificing some of the large lamps in the room.
There were five----two on the bedsides, a table lamp alongside the TV and two floor standing lamps.
To take a positive outlook on this, the room was well lit !

At breakfast, there was an abundance of choice and although neither of us are big eaters, breakfast was a daily highlight with the food consistently excellent.

Service at the hotel was faultless and all staff we came into contact with were easily identified in their smart uniforms, courteous, polite, well-presented, well trained, attentive and helpful.
11/10 for service and what was most impressive was the effort they made to busy themselves despite the hotel being quiet. Nobody stood around looking bored. Should the hotel management read this review, I hope they will pass on our praise to the staff.

Some minor suggestions for the hotel to make things even better:- A soap dish in the shower would be very handy and some additional sachets of milk by the kettle. Most Brits like their cuppa!!

Final suggestion and a really simple one to achieve----Hungary and Austria is the birthplace of some of the worlds finest musicians and music composers. Sadly, the continual noise emanating from the hotel sound system (chewing gum for the ears) was pretty awful. We`d have spent much more time and money in the hotel bar, if we could have listened to more pleasing background music.

Summary---really good hotel, very happy to recommend and would certainly stay again---but change that CD !

The location is absolutely perfect. It is 10m to the Chain Bridge, meaning you can walk to the center of the city, to the shopping areas and to the castle.
We booked a Luxury Double Room with River View. It is a regular big hotel chain kind of room. Fairly spacious and efficient, but lacking any charm. The views are spectacular!
The staff is professional and helpful, but upon arrival the towels were missing. The next day, when we asked for some more towels, they were never delivered. We eventually gave up.
If coming back to Budapeste I would stay there again, but would definitely check for other available options in the same location.

Room Tip: The view is worthed the extra cost.

We arrived at 1am to be told there was a 'technical problem' with our room and they would put us up in the Four Seasons, just down the road. We were rather put out and duly followed the porter who trundelled our suitcases down the road to the hotel on a trolley. We had a lovely room in the beautiful 4 Seasons hotel and a first class breakfast. We then were asked to return to the Sofitel the next day, so our suitcases were wheeled back again on the trolley. We were met by a lady from management who was extremely apologetic and showed us to a beautiful suite on the corner of the hotel, with wonderful views across the Danube to the Castle, and of the Chain Bridge. Chocolates were sent to our room along with a card with an apology from the manager.

We were very impressed with the way the hotel managed this situation, and really had a wonderful stay, made even more comfortable by the fabulous upgrade to a suite with 4 bay windows and amazing views! We found the staff friendly and very helpful, and the breakfasts were very good. The hotel couldn't be more central for sightseeing and just walking out to a huge choice of lovely restaurants. We would certainly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Corner rooms/suites facing the Danube have wonderful views

We were very pleased with most aspects of this hotel: the location, the buffet breakfast ( so very extensive and delicious), helpful concierge, very fast elevators, interesting architecturally ( inside only), and quiet rooms ( with windows closed). Less than optimal was the "air conditioning" which, although set on the coldest setting ( it was in the high 80's), it did nothing to cool off the room. My husband excused this, explaining that in the spring, when temperatures could be hot or cold from day to day, the system can't be adjusted to accommodate either heating or cooling-- I debate the accuracy of this statement, but I'm not an engineer, so I'm not certain, I am sure, however, that other guests experienced the same sweltering heat and frustration, because it was a big topic of conversation at breakfast! The breakfast here is almost worth the cost of staying the night-- at least 100 linear feet of buffet items, and a chef to make custom omelette s, if you so desire. Right outside of the hotel is the number 2 tram, ( yellow)which travels along the shore on the Pest side of the river and travels down to the Central Market and beyond, and up to Parliament. Buy a multiple day pass, and save your feet-- you will most likely be using this tram and the other modes of public transit as you traverse this city to see the most interesting attractions, which are spread out all over the place. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Pay a little extra to get a view of the Chain Bridge and the Danube. Everything is lit up at night a...
