Our expectations were exceeded as soon as we arrived as we were upgraded to a higher grade room!

The breakfast was superior with a vast choice and excellent service. Fresh food and a great selection

The spa area was clean and luxurious.

Our room overlooked the Danue and the Chain bridge with stunning views. It was spacious with a bath and shower available. Bose speakers were a nice addition to the room.

Location was ideal to explore both Buda and Pest.

The concierge was incredibly helpful. We would definitely recommend and would love to stay again!

Stayed at Sofitel Budapest in March 2013. It's hard to find any fault, the room was big, clean and well furnished. The lobby, bar and restaurant were welcoming and stylish. Staff were very friendly. If i had one or two niggles, I would say the room service food quality is a little weak.

Top tips:
- Be careful at the airport when getting a taxi in to City Centre, make sure it's a regulated, named taxi with a meter - there were a lot of unofficial taxi's!

- The trams are pretty good, very cheap and quick. You can buy tickets at the Hotel Business Centre

- Don't have breakfast in your room, much better choice in restaurant.

Room Tip: I had room 505, fantastic view of the Chain Bridge and Danube

You can’t fault the location and as both this hotel and the adjacent hotels are frequented by international dignitaries, you know you’re in the right place.

Our room was a luxury upgrade on the 6th floor. Spacious and well presented. Tea & coffee in the room, but teas were only herbal/fruit. Really comfortable beds, bottled water every day, spacious wardrobe and free safe. Gorgeous, clean marble bathroom with robes and slippers and well made up every day. We overlooked the Danube, which is only a few paces away from the front door and faced the fabulous Fisherman’s Bastion across the famous Chain Bridge. Bliss! As well as having those benefits, the hotel has a fantastic location and a perfect base for both walking to the main places of interest or for hopping onto the city tour buses and river cruises and is an easily accessible haven in between expeditions.

All public areas area are pleasing and clean with really lovely staff. Swimming pool, gym and sauna but no steam room or Jacuzzi. Breakfast included in our rate; good quality and quantity with attentive staff. We had dinner in the Paris Budapest restaurant. The staff were the best. Excellent english, friendly and helpful with everything including reserving us a lovely window seat. The bottle of wine we had was a bit ropey, my fault for not sending it back at tasting (not to cause stress on a really happy occasion) but hopefully the manager will review that batch to avoid any other customer’s being put in that situation. The quality of the food was good but for the price (remember taxes and service charge are added at the end) I would say my expectation was a little higher, but once again the location with the lit Royal Palace, Bastion and Chain Bridge in view it was perfect for the occasion.

All-in-all, this is a great value hotel for the location and quality in a beautiful city.

Room Tip: Only some are river view - 625 a good one.

As is invariably the case with our city breaks, the cheap flight was secured first; only then did we tackle the question of accommodation. Having recently had postive experiences of Sofitels in Warsaw and Lisbon, we were confident that we wouldn't be let down, and I am glad to say that our confidence proved not to be misplaced.

We arrived in a FoTaxi shortly after midday on a sweltering Tuesday afternoon and, while the bustle and apparent impatience of other guests meant that we took slightly longer to be attended to than might have been expected, our patience received its reward in the form of an upgrade to a junior suite. We smiled wryly at this as a Spanish couple who had jumped us in the queue and were being taken at the next check-in desk found themselves paying a considerable sum for the same upgrade. ¡La buena educación no cuesta nada! The suite itself was excellent, with a large living area separate from the bedroom (each had a television) complete with IPod docker, and a kitchen with dishes, cutlery, plenty of glasses and a Nespresso machine. The main benefit of the suite was the peace of mind that it afforded us as we tramped around the city. Given the hotel's central location, we were never too far from a sanctuary that inclined us to retreat for an hour or two and recharge our batteries rather than press on and melt ourselves in Hungary's summer sunshine. The breakfast buffet was of an excellent standard, as was the tea/coffee service provided by the friendly waiting staff, and we were more than happy to stock up so that lunch was unnecessary. Another lovely stay at Sofitel. If only we could afford one of their beds for our own place...we checked out the cost and choked!

Room Tip: Patience, good manners and a Sofitel membership card seem to have combined to secure us an upgrade...

This hotel is one of the best value for money luxury hotels in the world. Located, just steps from the Chain Bridge, it's right where you want to be. The 4S just nearby is probably better, but the rate is three times higher. We were more than pleasantly surprised by this hotel.
Check in was a breeze.
Our room was modern, clean and spacious with an amazing view.
We had both dinner and breakfast in the hotel and both were fab and again presented a fantastic value for money.
Budapest itself is a lovely city and well worth a weekend trip.

Brief review: approx 20 Euro from the airport in a cab so pretty good. Use Fo Taxi! Desk is as you come out of the airport.

Reception and lobby area of the hotel are impressive and worthy of 5 star status.

Check in was fast and professional. However having contacted the hotel twice before arriving as this was a special trip, the hotel failed to offer us a room on a higher floor as we had requested. We was also offered an upgrade charge of 49 euro per night only to over- hear other guests being offered the same upgrade for 30 euro per night. Unfortunately we could not afford the upgrade.

The room was at best 3 star quality. There was a large stain on the carpet, the furniture was old and tatty, the room was constantly hot ( we stayed here in February!) so we had to sleep with the window open and be woken by police and ambulance sirens continuously.

There is an iron and ironing board provided in the room but only one socket behind the desk by the window, which means heaven forbid you wish to iron something you have to move the entire desk and stretch the wire across, which basically means you can't iron anything properly, so I gave up on this.

There is BBC World News and there is meant to be Sky News but this channel never worked. This isn't a big deal but it is sometimes nice to have the tv on just before you go to sleep or to block out the noise of the sirens!

The beds are very comfy. The shower is pretty decent. There is hardly any storage in the room and not enough towels provided for 2 people.

The breakfast was part of our deal otherwise we wouldn't have been able to afford 26 euro each per day for it. However I must confess this is the best breakfast I have ever had! It also saves you having to buy lunch as it fills you up for the entire day!

We used the pool and the sauna in the spa area. Again these could do with a little bit of updating and it is a little bit awkward having to walk around the hotel in the poor quality robes and slippers supplied in order to use the pool.

The staff in the breakfast restaurant and at the check in reception desk are all polite and professional.

The day concierge staff were helpful. However the man who works on the concierge in the evenings was useless! When we arrived on our first night we explained that we had just arrived so didn't have our bearings yet and just wanted somewhere inexpensive to grab some food. At this point we didn't realise how close we were to a large square of restaurants and bars similar to Lecicester Square in London. Instead of directing us towards this area he instructed us to use a wine and steak house on a back street in the middle of nowhere which was very expensive!!! We managed to find an Italian restaurant instead.

On our third night we approached him and asked if he could book us a taxi to a restaurant. He said no problem, we explained we would wait at the sofa right infront of his desk and he would call us when the taxi had arrived.

I saw the bellboy approach him and ask who the taxi was for. I then saw the concierge describe me and my partner in lets just say an unfavourable way, not realising we were sitting directly infront of him!! I got up went to the other bellmen and was told there were several taxi's available out the front for use.

The most annoying thing about this concierge was his arrogrant approach, he was clearly not up to the job or particuarly knowledgable of the local area but his cockyness was shocking.

To conclude the hotel is in a great location, the breakfast is amazing, the check-in and restaurant staff are pretty good, but the rooms are tired and need renovating. I would probably try another hotel next time.

Budapest is beautiful though!

Firstly, this was a city break for a nice get away from the working world for a few days. Once of the plane the transfer was great (£20 for a taxi) to the hotel. Once arrived at the hotel the hotel looked pretty spectacular from inside. Real modern which was nice to break it up from the old style design that Budapest had to offer. Room standard i would say was ok, nothing special. But nothing to majorly complain about. The room service was very poor and so was the cleaning. We returned to our room after a few trips out and about, and the room was left the same way which we left it. But i am putting this down to out of season. I would recommend the breakfast because it saved us requiring lunch and the quality of the breakfast was second to none. Excellent! Overall the hotel proved perfect for us, the location was great, the hospitality was great, and we never had to get a taxi any where because it was so convenient for all things we had to do. The city is great, the food was great, and you must try the spa in Pest! Overall a very nice, romantic city break!

Room Tip: The higher up the better!
