Warm reception... Room quite spacious. But breakfast range was not good... ESP since we are vegetarians. Did not even attempt eating in other meals. We had just two days in Budapest and ended cabbing it everywhere since the hotel was quite far off from various attractions and pick up points. The reception was always prompt in calling for a cab... Great service.

It is a dog friendly hotel.. But we didn't know that and were startled every time the lift opened to a huge husky :-) But since we ourselves have a dog back home, found it nice. But for the wet dog smell in the lifts!

Dear RevsKumar,

Thank you so much for choosing Mercure Budapest Buda during your stay in Hungary.
We are re-organizing our breakfast selection, so we really appreciate your comments.
During your stay World Dog Show was held in Budapest that's why we had so many dogs in the hotel.
Thank you for your remark again and we sincerely hope to see you back in our hotel in the near future.

Best regards

We were in this hotel in march 2013. and first thing I remember is really good breakfast :-) There was plenty of everything and tasty.

Room looked a little bit used and smelled like ash tray on first, but we were too tired to ask for another room, so we ventilated a room. Honestly, even it looks used it was clean room beside bad smell. We also had heating problems because we came in cold room, we tried to fix it by ourselves, and try to open AC, but nothing did not help, so we called reception and repairer showed in 5 minutes. I can not tell that he fixed the problem totaly, but after him room was warm enough for living.

Hotel is on walking distance (around 500m) from Budapest Castle, and around 200m from metro station. Wi-fi in room worked.

They have nice and helpfull staff, room is cleaned every day. Receptionists speak english fluently.

Even it may look like little bit negative review on some points, I have to say that I was satisfied with room and service. I think that this is good value hotel, and I recommend!

Just come back from this hotel, having booked through an intermediary, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a free upgrade to a privilege room on the 8th floor, with magnificent views of the Castle region.
Overall, I did not use any ofthe restaurant facilities, nor did I have breakfast, so I cannot comment.
A special word for one the most helpful reception staff, I believe her name was Edina, and she had trainee on her badge - however, I believe her training must be near an end because her customer service was excellent - thank you.
Location Wise: Yes, it is on the Buda side, whereas most things seem to be on the Pest side. The 10 minute walk to the castle area (mentioned by the manager in reply to a previous review) is all uphill (or up lots of steps) - however, if you're fit (which I am not - sadly!) then go ahead.
Transportation is good, except after midnight - the night bus service is very difficult to get hold of - and there were only a couple of locations in Pest from which to catch a bus back here - however, taxis were cheap and the ones I got were reliable.
During the day, it's a case of a 5 min walk to the metro station, catch a train (which are very, very frequent) and 4 stops later you're in downtown! About 12-15 mins in total.

Public transport prices are quite cheap - individual tickets cost about £1.10 GBP - 24 hour passes about £4.85; 72 hour passes: £12 - and if you are going for more than 72 hours, it is better to get a 7 day pass (which is only £14.50) - compared to getting another 24 hour pass on top of a 72 hour pass.

Back to the Mercure!!! During your stay in Budapest, you'll probably encounter many Mercure hotels all over the city, and if you like to be able to nip back to your hotel all during the day, it is a minor inconvenienve that it will probably not be within walking distance (as opposed to at least three other much more centrally located Mercures) - but if that doesn't bother you, then the location is not an issue.
And in terms of price, this hotel is very good value for a 4* property.

Room Tip: 8th floor privilege room overlooking the view of the Castle region.

The best with the hotel was "ordnung" and the least was the location.

The hotel has an excellent location. It is very close to the red metro line and you can easily reach Pesta side and the famous Vaci street, the Basilca, the Parliament and the Synagogue. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The second day of our stay there was no hot water on our floor, maybe due to the fact that a lot of tourist groups arrived at very short period of time. However, we talked to the reception and the problem was solved very quickly. You can organize your tourist tours through reception which is very convenient. The breakfast is fine although they can improve on diversity. The hotel was full when we were staying however the restaurant staff handled it very good and although full of guests we did not experience any shortage at any time of anything that was offered at the buffet table. The rooms are renovated; clean and spacious. All in all if you consider value for money the hotel is one of the best in Budapest.

Stayed here for 3 nights on a business trip. Location is obviously good for exploring the Buda side and the Castle district. It's a bit more of a hike to the Pest side, but there is a nearby tram stop, part of the City's very good transport sytem.
The hotel decor feels a little tired and overall was not quite up to the standard of some other Mercure hotels. Having said that, the price was very reasonble, so in that sense it was fair value for money. My room had all the basics, with a comfortable large bed. During my stay quite a number of coach parties seemed to pass through, so there were waves of intense activity in the lobby and (separate) restaurant area.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially when ordering taxis, printing boarding cards etc. The breakfast buffet was adequate, but not very exciting. I ate alone in the restaurant one evening - there was a longish wait for the food to arrive, but when it came it was freshly cooked and tasty.
Free WiFi is a bonus and very useful. The Conference facilities were fine and comfortable.
