“Refreshing stay for a business traveller”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

I recently stayed at the Art'otel on a series of business trips to Budapest. Having stayed at a number of hotels in Budapest I found the Art'otel to be a refreshing break from the usual "chain" hotels.

Positives:
*Great location on the Buda side and if you can get a room with a river view you will have a great view too.
*Comfortable beds
*Clean rooms
*Attentive and professional staff
*If you are a jogger, you are fairly close to the Margaret Island
*Nice breakfast selection

Room Tip: Ask for a river view on the higher floors.

Rooms are very 'arty' - lots of pictures, funky lighting (including under bed which was bizarre, to say the least!), and zany floor coverings. We had a fantastic room on the 7th floor with views across the Danube. Room cleanliness could not be faulted at all - bathroom was left spotless every day as was the room itself - well done to the Housekeeping team.

The reason for my 'Average' score is the breakfast service. There was no consistency of approach on the three mornings we were there. Staff seemed to wander around aimlessly clearing tables randomly and generally being oblivious to guests who required attention. Items which ran out were not automatically replaced - we had to ask - and on at least two occasions this was more than once. There was a great selection of food available for breakfast - it's a shame that shoddy service spoiled the experience.

To end on a positive note, we would stay there again but omit the breakfast option as there were plenty of cafes and bistros nearby where I think we would have fared much better. We secured a late check out without any difficulty and at no extra charge which was a bonus for us. so come on guys - fab hotel - just get your act together at breakfast and improve the experience for your guests.

Room Tip: Request a river view - some road noise but double glazing is excellent and virtually hides the sound...

I stayed here for a weekend in September.

We had a room on the first floor that faced the river. The view was the best.

The location was central, walking distance to St Stephen’s Basilica area, which has a strip of different restaurants and bars for the evening.

The room was clean, large, shower pressure excellent, they provided you three pillows, not sure why they don’t give you four, the pillows are uncomfortably soft. The bed was comfortable, however, being on the first floor, there was a bit of traffic noise if you left the balcony doors open, the balcony definitely a plus. Would suggest you try and get a room higher up.

When leaving the hotel, turn left, walk for under ten minutes, you arrive at the metro station that will take you anywhere. The tram also stops left outside the hotel and will take you to the Great Market Hall. Turn right out of the hotel and there was a really nice restaurant called Sophia’s, small menu but the food and service good.

My partner had breakfast in our room one morning, which was enjoyed. We drank in the bar whilst waiting for our taxi to the airport.

From the second night, they stopped providing two towels, I had to call reception two days in a row to ask for towels, if housekeeping took two used towels, why only replace one?

This hotel is in an amazing location with amazing views, the hotel itself has no atmosphere, is lifeless and the staff are ok, but nothing I would say stood out to me, I almost didn’t write a review.

I would stay again for the location, it is central and the best. Hotel was near anything, and if not you could get there from the metro.

We stayed for 3 nights and found the hotel comfortable, very clean but a little tired. The view over the river was wonderful but I was glad I had earplugs as it was just where the party boat seems to set off from... pretty noisy crowd and the road is busy... all that aside I. would happily stay in the room again. It is perhaps time for a refurbish, our carpets were very worn and stained and the housekeeping was very good but can't perform miracles.

The breakfast was very good and we enjoyed the ambience.

The reception staff did a fantastic job of helping us make alternative arrangements when we found out the airline we intended to travel with had ceased operating in Feb/March. It was not their problem but they helped us as.we had a deadline to meet to get to Split.

Overall we would be happy to recommend this hotel... it really is a great location.

The best thing about this hotel is its location.. located on the banks of the river Danube facing the fantastic parliament building.. the hotel has nice contemporary look, cute little lobby which is bright and cheerful.. room was just about good..didnt get a chance to have the food as i stayed just for one night.. so i cant comment about the food nor any of the other facilities of the hotel..

The art'otel budapest (Adress: Bem Rakpart 16-19, Budapest 1011) on the Buda side of Budapest is a cosy and fine boutique hotel. It is very clean, have a lot of newly refreshed and renowated rooms and good and friendly staff. If you get a hotel room with danube view - they might be louder, but they have a nice view - you can see the parliament. I try always to stay there when I have to stay in Buda

Could not fault the art'otel at all. Have stayed there twice now. Staff and hotel were fab each time. Well worth paying a bit extra for a room with a view of the Danube, Parliament Building and Chain Bridge - amazing sitting on the balcony watching the city lights at night.
Great little bar/cafe at the back of the hotel - went there a lot to relax with a beer or coffee after a day's sight seeing.
Became quite a local at the Sailor Bar where the food was excellent value and staff very friendly.
Treated ourselves one evening to a meal at the Piano Bar. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Waited ages for the food and after eating a mouth full of chicken covered in a sauce - discovered it was virtually raw!!!! Pointed this out to the waiter who decided he didn't understand any English. Eventually got the message across and he simply took it away to cook. Meanwhile my partner had nearly finished his meal. I would normally complain but realised that no matter what I said - the waiter was not listening and didn't care. I really should have complained as although I wasn't ill straight away - I was a few days later.
Worth buying one of the day tickets which entitles you to hop on and off the bus where ever you wish.
Have been to Budapest in both the summer and winter. Preferred our trip in the winter
