“Excellent hotel that lives up to ranking”
Reviewed August 10, 2014

Hotel is excellent. Obviously been a large investment in the property and it's been brought right up to the best international standards. Right from the start the staff are welcoming and very friendly. Check in is fast and efficient.

Hotel refit has retained the character of the hotel whilst also modernising at the same time. Bar is fairly quite in the evening, and with all the good eating places around, we didn't get a chance of eating in the restaurant, so can't comment on the food. Try the Pilinka - mezes Barack (honey and apricot) is lovely.

Our room was on the top floor, and even though the hotel is on a busy road with the #4 & 6 trams stopping right outside the double glazing is extremely efficient and cuts out all noise. Added to that, the bed is one of the most comfortable I've ever known. So a good night's sleep is guaranteed.

The rooms are a really good size and very well equipped, as well as being spotlessly clean. Didn't have a bath in our room, only a shower. But that's not a problem for us. A again, spotlessly clean ever day and well equipped with shampoo, shower gel etc. Our room had a view across the buildings of Budapest to the Palace on the Budapest side. Distant, but still a good view none the less.

Location of the hotel is excellent as well. Tram outside the door and the metro entrance about 20m for the door. The transport system of Budapest is excellent and this location makes getting to all major attractions very very simple. If you stay for a week, go to the metro station and buy a week pass that covers all transport I the city (team, bus, trolley bus, metro and train).

If this hotel is on your list, just book it. Really comfortable stay and thoroughly recommended. Will be back again one day.

Room Tip: 5th floor with a view of the Palace. Also very very quite.

The hotel is perfectly located, just next to a metro station and a tram line, but inside very elegant and quiet. Our room was very comfortable and quiet, and room service was very efficient. All the staff were very helpful and spoke perfect English. They could not have done more for us and kindly organised taxis to & from the airport as well as tickets for the baths. The breakfast in the Art Nouveau dining room was copious and varied.

I have stayed in MGalley hotels around the world but this is one the best. It is located on the main road which is quite busy, but the moment you walk in the front door, its a different world. An old converted art museum, every bit of the hotel is a piece of art. The grand staircase, the inner courtyard with the statues ( visible only from inside facing rooms), took our breath away.
We were staying for my wife's bday, and we were given a suite, with a bottle of sparkling wine ( which was a nice touch). The high ceilings give the room a very spacious feel & the sleek modern decor was just to our taste. The breakfast was the best I have had on our holidays. The staff were always courteous, friendly & helpful.
The transport links are great with the tram & metro is literally outside the door, with great connections ( 2 stops on metro to Deak Square). I would definitely stay there again without a second thought.
Budapest is an amazing city & we found this hotel to compliment it perfectly.

Room Tip: Ask for a room which over look the inner courtyard.

The staff were superb, so friendly and informative. Loved how enthusiastic the porter was when we arrived, he told us facts about the hotel and seemed to be genuinely happy to be working. It's a great location, next to trains and trams, though the hotel is soundproof. It's a 15-20 min walk to Vaci Utca and a little further to the market which has delicious and fresh produce and amazing cakes. The New York Cafe is close by and is so opulent and grand. When we asked to use the internet, the staff gave us their laptop! We spent 5 days here and loved it. We came all the way from Australia and think Budapest is a warm and friendly place with good value for money.

The nicest hotel we have stayed so far.
The day before arrival, I contacted the hotel to find out if it would be possible to upgrade us to a suite. I got an answer from them within minutes that it was possible and it didn't even cost that much. So we went for it and it was really, really nice room.
The hotel is situated near a metro and tram station, so you can get places easily, but we also found out that walking for about 10 minutes can get you to the river, so still a good possibility.
And it was really close to all the things we had chosen to do and visit - new york cafe, claustrophilia game, szimpla bar, etc.
If I must mention some down sides, which are seriously just a small details is, that breakfast is really good, but also really expensive. We chose to eat there on our first and last morning and the food was great, but 19 euros per person is a bit over the top... However, the fact that we could just choose the mornings where we could eat and sleep long the rest of them was a nice change from a typical hotel scene in our family where we have to get up, since we have to make it to the breakfast (in the last moment, obviously). So we enjoyed sleeping long for a change! :)
And other thing we did not completely understand was the lady that arrived every night at 18 o'clock to make our beds... Since it was so hot in Budapest that we could not be outside during the day, we were mostly napping around that time, so we learn't quickly that the do not disturb sign must be used also for the evenings. :) Maybe it's just us, but we could't quite see the sense of another cleaning lady coming in the late afternoon just to make the bed... (well, but as I said, it is the nicest hotel where we have stayed so far, so it must be us... ) :)

Dear Ilze H,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such an extensive, and kind review of Your experience at the Hotel Nemzeti! It is always a pleasure to recieve such positive feedbacks. I was really glad to read that you found our junior suite to be such a great value, and also, that our location was s o convenient for you!
Just a little explanation, the maid entered you room early evening to perform a turndown service, whih is a ritual/service when we prepare the room for the evening/night. We can ask housekeeping to cancel this service if you prefer, the next time you visit us. We hope to see you soon!

This is the most elegant hotel I've ever stayed at. Here you will feel like every little detail has been thought of. The room feels extremely spacious due to high ceiling. The hall and staircase are a piece of art. The facade of the hotel brings memories from times when building was an art.

Only (tiny) complaint I have is about the lift. You may have to wait for minutes till it comes. Take the stairs instead and enjoy the nice architecture of the building.
