“Wonderful Hotel”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

This Kempinski Hotel property is a delight. Service and staff are wonderful and kind. Breakfast can be busy, so get there at a reasonable hour. The food choices are enormous, so you will not have to order anything off the menu.
It is true that if you are facing St. ELizabeth's Square it is very noisy, especially on Saturday night. Loud music till about 2 am, but that is part of the charm.

Room Tip: If you need quiet, do not get a room facing the square

Stayed here for a leisure weekend earlier this year.
This is a superb hotel, luxurious and very comfortable.
The breakfast was amazing although the service was a bit slow when ordering omellettes.
Location and staff where very helpful and friendly.
Would definatly stay here again when a little luxury is deserved

Spent a week there on a combined business and pleasure trip. The hotel met my expectations. Very friendly service very professional. Our business meeting ran perfectly. The ES restaurant had a great assortment of delicious food. If I am ever in Budapest I will stay again.

Kempinski Hotel is certainly one of Budapest's more elegant hotels and we enjoyed our week long stay here. Service throughout the hotel is extremely attentive and professional while the rooms are very pristine and tasteful, if conservatively decorated. We had a room on the 6th floor facing onto St. Elizabeth's square. From here, the view of the square and St. Stephen's Basilica was beautiful, although it was admittedly noisy at times even with the window closed -- the square is at once a popular hangout, a venue for impromptu or planned evening concerts, and a haven for the odd noisy drunkard. One amenity I found curiously lacking in the room was a kettle and coffee/tea supplies which are typically common in almost all western and western style hotels, even of a much lesser calibre. Similarly, there was no bedside radio or clock. Housekeeping is terrific. However, if you are down for breakfast and are planning to return to your room afterwards, I strongly recommend putting out the 'privacy please' tag, as they seem to clean the rooms early and invariably when you need your room after breakfast, as was our case.

The breakfast buffet is certainly generous and with many choices including a wide selection of breads, Hungarian pastries, cold cuts, salmon, hot dishes, fruits, cereals, fresh squeezed juices, and a highly recommended homemade yogurt which is really delicious! There is a separate charge for some western egg dishes such as Eggs Benedict but really, with such a wide array of offerings, why would anyone need to order anything else and besides, if it's eggs that you one is craving, we also found scrambled eggs and soft and hard boiled eggs. Having praised the breakfast buffet, I would add that it is perhaps not worth the price unless you are a big eater or are filling up for the day -- ours simply happened to be included in the special room package. There is a small cafe off the lobby where individual items can be ordered or, there are many coffee shops in the vicinity. A couple of small observations to management: as the morning breakfast rush is clearly very busy, perhaps setting up two stations for the 'check-in' would help alleviate the lineups and also, a 'self-serve' coffee and tea area would be advisable so that guests can simply help themselves, particularly for refills, as the wait for coffee or tea was frequently long or simply not forthcoming.

I should mention that the tasteful store in the lobby exclusively devoted to selling macaroons in every color of the rainbow and scrumptious flavors is a most pleasant bonus. I recommend one a day.

Visited Kempinski for 2 nights for business. First the good bits. Everything works predictably enough, facilities were clean, room was reasonably well appointed, staff were courteous and handled the predictable bits of checking in and out efficiently enough. Blue Fox the bar in the hotel had a fun crew when we visited them late. Where stuff really fails is if you ask for something irregular or outside the norm. Tried to get frequent flyer miles with the hotel booking but very unhelpful front desk insisted I produce a physical frequent flyer card, refusing to accept just a number/name combination or evidence of membership through a log-in screen on the iPhone. Really unhelpful and rigid. Entrance/Exit via Nobu was locked on Sunday morning, but do the staff tell you as you head down the passageway and slam yourself into a locked glass door? No. Bed were tiny. Had two single beds split apart and sleep wasn't too comfortable as a result. View from the room, which was on the side of the river, faced a building under construction. Most certainly not coming back. We had business partners at the Sofitel and I have to say the experience as guests in that hotel (together with the food) was a lot more enjoyable with delightful and assured staff as the front desk, restaurant on the ground floor and breakfast areas. Funny how we didn't bother dining at the Kempinski save for a lunch at Nobu, which was quite ordinary.

Room Tip: Find a room in another hotel.

We just (29/09/2013) arrived for a conference and got the room 337 with a big smile at the reception: this is the best room. As soon as went up understood we are talking about the opposite. The room has terrible smell. Not a big deal I thought and went back to the reception to change it where the same smile said sorry but we can not and advised to be understanding as they had a big issue with the burst pipe. I explained I have allergy and I am non smoker, the answer was to be understanding.. I was about to write this review when found out there is no internet in the room. On the top of everything the tv menu is spanish what I can not change. Welcome to a "five star hotel". I recommend the next door place or the four stars are also better..
