We "found" the Victoria when we visited Budapest six years ago. Returned for a three night visit in May to find it incredibly better than ever. Backed against the Buda enbankment near the iconic Chain Bridge and facing Parliament and all of Pest, every room has a floor to ceiling view of the Danube. Rooms have been tastefully redone, but the friendly and helpful staff, the great breakfast (fresh eggs made to order), and the perfect location are unchanged. You can spend a lot more for a lot less. Go for it!

Room Tip: All views are great, but highest in this six-floor establishment are best.

Our room was modern, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The view from our top-floor room was wonderful, especially in the evening when the parliament buildings were lit up. There were numerous restaurants in close proximity, making eating easy, especially when we were jetlagged, after flying in from Canada. The breakfasts were good, and the omelettes were cooked-to-order. The staff was extremely helpful when advising us on where to pick up necessities when our luggage did not appear as we got off the plane. Staff also kept checking with the airline to see if the luggage would appear and then ensured that we got it the moment it arrived at the hotel, 36 hours after it went missing. The staff also arranged for us to see a Hungarian folk concert and offered to make other reservations for us. A pleasant, people-oriented boutique hotel.

The hotel is in a really good location, right on the Danube, with stunning views, from all the bedrooms, of the Parliament building, the dome of St Stephens and the Chain Bridge (which will be very familiar to everyone who knows Marlow, Bucks). Buda Castle, the Matthias Church and the Fishermen's Bastion are right behind the hotel, but it is a stiif climb to them unless you walk along to the fenicular. Pest is a ten minute walk away, across the Chain Bridge.
The rooms are large and comfortable, with good air-conditioning and the bathroom a reasonable size; both are very modern and clean. Our bed was also very comfortable. The road outside is busy and a little traffic noise can be heard, but only the Police sirens are likely to wake you and we never heard these late at night.
After a day's sight-seeing, it was always a pleasure just sit in the window and watch the city and the river light up.
Breakfast was good, with freshly cooked egg and bacon and omelettes available. The breakfast room is a little small and if the hotel is full you can sometimes wait a few minutes for a table, but the staff get you seated as soon as they can.
Reception and all of the staff were polite and helpful.
The hotel has an interesting, historic music room, where they have tea and coffee available every afternoon between 4 & 5pm.
We would say that it would be difficult to find a better hotel in Budapest, certainly for the price.

Room Tip: I guess the higher you go, the better the view.

We were ecstatic to see the size and view from our room. Very spacious with a sitting area by the window for viewing the astounding Danube River and bridges. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms were clean and tastefully decorated. Breakfast in the morning was impressive, with eggs cooked to order included with the room price. We also took advantage of Happy Hour, with buy one drink, get one free between 5:30 and 6:30pm. The location is excellent, as is the friendly and helpful staff. I had left my purse in the lounge after a couple glasses of wine, and was relieved and grateful to have it brought up to our room by the bar hostess. She may have saved me a lot of grief!! I would highly recommend this hotel to Budapest travellers.

Room Tip: All rooms have a view.

Stayed at this small but lovely hotel for 3 nights in May. Firstly, most rooms are huge with queen sized beds and superb modern en-suites. The rooms are really clean and up to date. Different lighting choices in the room is a nice touch. Wi-fi free too. Secondly, the views from the floor to ceiling huge windows in the room are spectacular. The Danube, parliament buildings and the chain bridge right outside the window...stunning! Thirdly, the breakfast was just lovely. Plenty to choose from and omlettes or scrambled eggs to order. One word of advice, when choosing a thermal spa, don't visit the Gillert spa and bath in Budapest, it is old, dirty, tired and difficult to understand where you can and cannot bathe (with or without swim hats which were not provided or offered). This city is just lovely and we would visit again.

I stayed for 4 nights in March and enjoyed a wonderful vacation here. 2 comfortable chairs by the window encourage you to spend time watching the river traffic which I found totally absorbing. Even while resting on my bed in room 41, I could see the Chain Bridge. The room was spacious, and newly fitted. End rooms benefit from having a side window which opens and they are slightly larger than the centre rooms. Lots of different room lighting options to discover and very good wifi in the room. I could hear the trams trundling past below but not a problem for me.

I travelled in by public transport after lots of research on the excellent BKV (public transport) website. It was straightforward and a very interesting introduction to Budapest. I purchased a single ticket for the 200 bus at Relay newsagents at the airport and then a 7 day travel pass at the metro station, Kobanya Kispest for onward travel to Batthyany ter. I strongly recommend the travel pass for the convenience because unlike other cities which allow you to change transport within a time limit, here you need to buy new tickets when you switch modes. It can also be used on the BKV passenger boats on the Danube, routes 11, 12 and 13. The hotel website also has very good links to anything else that you want to know.

So many highlights on this trip so here are a few. A trip on The Childrens Railway, travelling up on the cogwheel railway from Varosmajor and returning by chairlift. I went to a ballet performance at the Opera House and a guided tour of the Parliament Building, both easily booked online in the UK. Afternoon tea is also served for free in the beautifully restored music room which is located just through reception.

I also enjoyed the art of Victor Vasarely at the nearby museum on the Buda side, the architecture of the great Market Hall and the western railway station, Nyugati P which is also the home of the grandest McDonalds imaginable.

Having read of numerous tourist scams in Budapest, nothing untoward happened to me throughout my stay but I did avoid the touristy Vaci Utca area in Pest. I look forward to returning to Hotel Victoria, surely the best price/quality ratio available and did I mention the stunning river view and music salon?

Room Tip: End rooms are slightly larger and have a second floor to ceiling window that opens. Room 41 was high...

I have just returned from 3nts stay with friends at the hotel and cann't say enough about the location , the staff and the cleanliness of the hotel. We had rooms overlooking the Danube and the view was fantastic particularly at night when all the buildings are lit. Although on the Buda side it was only 10mins walk across the lovely Chain Bridge to the Pest side. We did the free walking tour of the city, very impressive and informative and a must do is to go to one of the many bath houses in the city. We chose Szechenyi up at Heroe's Square, beautiful! Many, many really lovely old buildings in and around the city. Definitely would return to the hotel and the city.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the river
