I travel often to Budapest and stayed at the Liget for the first time in September- I will definetely go back! I booked thru a local service for 79 a night and experienced no rips at the desk as some have reported. Room had AC which worked well, and a big bathroom. Was very clean and in a nice area- just up the street from the Hosok Tere metro stop and several bus stops, so downtown connections were excellent. Desk staff were nice, but didn't know their own neighbourhood too well- there are a few small shops down the street, along with small groceries, restaurants, and a beauty shop (which came in handy four weeks into a nine week business trip!). Breakfast buffet was nice, but very crowded- go early or late if you can. Had a nice dinner there one night a well, a little pricey, but lots of food. There is an expensive internet kiosk in the lobby, but bring your laptop and use the WLAN- buy the longer duration (more than 30 minute) card from the desk and you can use it at your leisure. 24 hours doesn't need to be used in one sitting- this will keep your surfing costs down. Enjoy Budapest!

Stayed at the Liget during a business trip to Budapest. The hotel is modern, well located, with fairly basic rooms (no bedside light switch, very expensive minibar etc.) and bathrooms (with minimum amount of linen and just a liquid soap tub) for its 4-star rating, good breakfast.
What I found unpleasant, was the ripping change applied at the front desk for settling the room arrangement or any other charge that invariably comes with a surcharge of some description: I really felt cheated.

We stayed at the Liget for 4 nights over Easter weekend. When we opened our room, we had twin beds. After several minutes of a standoff at the front desk, we were given a queen bed as our prepaid reservation required. The rooms are basic, but comfortable. Avoid the mini bar as cokes are $3 and the internet kiosk in the lobby is $8 for 30 minutes. The hotel restaurant is just ok, but does provide the free breakfast buffet in the morning.

The good stuff...
The hotel is across from the Art museum and City Park. Great for strolling around in the evening. Remember to take dress clothes for the Gundel restaurant in the park The Metro is a 3 minute walk, and the bus to the Train stations are even closer. Don't think twice about being too far out. It's a great location and a average tourist hotel.

My wife and I sayed at the Liget for 3 nights over Easter. If your looking for a room in one of the old ornate buildiings that are everywhere in this beautiful city, the Liget is not for you. If your looking for an immaculately clean (if a little boring ) room, in a realtively new hotel, with a good breakfast, a friendly staff, that's only a 5 minute walk from the best thermal bath in Budapest, then the Liget is for you.
The hotel may seem a little far from the city center, but your a 2 minute walk, then a 3-4 minute subway ride to the heart of town. Or, better yet, walk the half hour down Andrassy.
The only complaint, and it's one you can make with most hotels, is the restaurant. Just average, and a little expensive. For an interesting experience, try Sir Lancelot......trust me. And make a reservation.

Stayed for a week last summer.
Clean room and bath. Good breakfast, and helpful staff (for the most part). The rooms are small but quite comfortable, and there's minibar and effective airconditioning (the weather was VERY hot when we visited in late July).
It was our first visit to Budapest and Hungary, and it was a highly enjoyable experience. Loved the city! Hope to go back soon!
