Hilton Budapest
Ranked #16 of 336 Hotels in Budapest

Reviewed July 7, 2012

We were in the Hilton Budapest in what seemed like the hottest 2 days of the year. Needless to say, it was a relief to get out of the hot and humid weather and step into a beautiful, luxurious hotel. The location is the best thing about this hotel. It is right next to Fisherman's Bastion and St. Matthias Church in the castle district. The rooms are quite large and the beds were very comfortable.

To me, they loose a few points for the service because there were a couple of points, standard in most hotels, but the Hilton didn't have or couldn't do:
One, as I said, it was hot. And because the curtains of the room were drawn when we arrived, the room was quite warm when we entered. We quickly turned down the temperature but, after an hour, it was still quite warm. This is when we called for a fan, just to cool the room faster, but housekeeping said that they ran out. Same thing the next day.
Two, upon leaving, my friend asked to change his remaining Hungarian Florins back to Euro but the hotel staff said they didn't have a licence to do that!? I don't understand. Currency exchange is pretty standard in all 4-5 star hotels.
Three, the first internet connection they offered was SLOW. For 35 Euro per day, one would think that they could offer something faster. In the end, we used another internet connection (IBAHN). I just didn't appreciate not being offered this option,

So, all in all, we had a very good stay. But just keep these 3 points in mind.

Room Tip: ask for a room facing the river!

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for sharing your experience regarding your recent stay at Hilton Budapest. I am pleased to learn that you had nice stay at our hotel.

I am sincerely sorry for the inconvenience the issues of air condition and currency exchange have caused you. However, I'd like to clarify that our hotel does provide currency exchange. We are able to convert EUR, USD, GBP, JPY or CHF to HUF; however, we don't have to the licence to convert HUF to any foreign currencies.

I'd also like to inform you that internet will be available in public areas free of charge in all Hilton Hotels as of 1st January.

Again, thank you for writing this review and we would be glad to host you again at Hilton Budapest.

Best regards,
Zoltan Arvai

This is exactly why i never stay at Hilton hotels anymore, they are simply interested in your money and not in service. This is a lovely hotel in a great area of the most gorgeous city in the world. You could not ask for a better location. But even for a 5 star hotel the way they rip you off is outrageous. A 24 hour wireless internet pas, which is about10 euros in the nearby intercontinental and marriot is 25.50 in hilton and the bandwidth is terrible.

Dont be ripped off by hilton, go to one of the other great hotels in budapest.

Thank you for taking the time to inform me of your recent experience whilst staying at our hotel.

I'm pleased to hear that you like the hotel and the the location.

I'm terribly sorry to hear that you had a problem with the bandwith of the internet. I asked the front office manager to contact you in order to learn more about the cause of the problem.

Please note, that we've waived the charge of internet from your account.

I'd like to inform you that internet will be available in public areas free of charge in all Hilton Hotels as of 1st January.

I stayed here for 4 nights last month. It is a very beatiful location and the view from most of the rooms is the riverside - very impressive. Service of staff was also very good. Most of the sight seeing points were within walking distance. The roads around the hotel were made of stones... gave really different feeling of old era, the buldings around the hotel must be at least 200-300 year old.. except for the cars, the entire sight takes you about 200 years back.. i was told that this hotel was in fact a church some years ago.. the famous Hungarian parliamnet can be viewed from the hotel..

Room Tip: Most of the rooms are on riverfacing..

Very nice hotel, good service, good location. I've enjoyed every minute being there (though was in Budapest for business, so could not spend too much time in it...). There are still few facilities in the hotel that I'd like to try (sauna, fitness center) - hope the level there is the same.
Definitely the place to stay while in Budapest.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. We had a Junior Suite. Everything was excellent.
Even though we arrived at the hotel in the morning they allowed us to check in with full access to the lounge. We were treated really well by the staff and always got lots of help from the Concierge. When it came to check out and our flight was in the evening and we were able to get a late check out along with full access to the lounge for the remainder of the day.
As far as the location of this hotel it is in the quieter part of the city. A 5 min bus ride away. The area is gated and very safe to wander around at night. The local restaurants are really nice too.

Room Tip: Get a suite as it gives you full access to the lounge which includes really great snacks and free dr...

This hotel is in the castle district of Budapest. If you search for images of the castle district, you'll see that it is set on a high hill that overlooks the river dividing the city. The hotel is set into a very "old Europe" setting, with narrow cobbled streets, old churches, and other charming sights. In addition, the view from the hotel is spectacular--most of the city is in front of you, including a picture-perfect view of the Parliament building, which is beautifully lit at night. The rooms in the hotel are plenty large, and the interior feels very modern in terms of electric, HVAC, Internet, etc. If you're looking for old world charm, the interior will do nothing for you, but if you want a modern reprieve from your busy day, it's perfect. We stayed on the concierge floor, and the service there was impeccable. We had some interactions with the front desk staff, valets, and restaurant staff, and all were excellent. The front desk went out of their way to accommodate a need we had around meeting someone and paying for their taxi fare, so that was nice.

The biggest negative for me was that it was a bit of a hike to get back and forth between the hotel and any of the sights in Pest. That beautiful hill comes with hundreds (or thousands) of steps up and down winding hills as well as the walk over the bridge. My husband and I love to walk in the cities we visit, but even so, it was enough of a hike that we sometimes got lazy and either didn't leave the hotel area OR didn't go back to the hotel when we might have liked to freshen up. Of course, taxis are easily available and not too expensive, but if you like to walk and still be in the middle of things, you might find the location not ideal.

Room Tip: A view toward the city is ideal.

Deark Guest,

Thank you very much for your valuable review. I am happy to know that you and your husband had a pleasant experience staying at our hotel. We will welcome you anytime in the future.
Regarding your experince, I would like to note that the public transportation connecting our hotel and the city center is very well organized. Tourist can reach the city center by taking bus number 16 or 16A, which stops by our hotel every 5-10 minutes.
