Budapest Marriott Hotel

While I ordinarilly would stay at a local hotel, I had Marriott points to use and I am glad I did. Just about every room has a view of the Danube and the Palace across the river. The staff is very helpful and almost everyone speaks english. The concierge arranged for taxis for both drop-offs and pick-ups so we didnt have to worry about the questionable charging ethics of the independent cabbies. While the air conditioning performance is not up to cushy american standards, it did help take the edge off during the summer. Proximity to the shopping, restaurants, and boat tours is hard to beat. But the biggest benefit of this hotel is only available to the elite Marriott patrons or those willing to pay a little more for their stay. The Concierge Lounge has a large patio on (not quite) the top floor with a commanding 270deg view of the city. Breakfast is served in the morning; bottled water and soft drinks are available all day (a boon when water is absolutely required in the summer); and at night the evening meal and bar are open. Unlike the US concierge rooms, this one has some liquor, wine, and beer all gratis.
After a long day of sightseeing, retire the patio and enjoy watching the boats with a cold Dreher.
While there is no pool for the kids, take a taxi to one of the famous public baths (see my review on that as well).

Although I was pleased with my stay, and will go back when I can, I found myself unable to give this great hotel an "Excellent". Small issues are issues nonetheless. ~~~ The lack of free WiFi throughout the hotel, with the exception of the 9th floor Executive Lounge and a 3-hr limit on free WiFi in the lobby, cheapened the experience unnecessarily. ~~~ Lack of adequate parking, except for paid street parking (about a dollar an hour) for visitors who are not guests seemed like a problem that could be solved. ~~~ Service was very good, no issues there, just not "Excellent"; not a reflection on the staff's efforts, but more of a corporate culture in a business hotel. ~~~ Cleanliness is not in any way a problem, but the interior on the fuest floors felt like it could benefit from a refresh. ~~~ Location along the Pest bank of the Danube could not be more scenic, but navigating the streets of the city to get to the hotel can be challenging. ~~~ Overall, good for business stays, but definitely get Executive Club access and take your camera and WiFi enabled device to the club with you.

This hotel is a very typical Marriott hotels. Rooms are as you would expect from a Marriott, the staff is very friendly, and the restaurants are exquisite.

We had the basic deluxe room, which turned out just as we expected: clean, not too big, but everything we are used to, was present. The only downside was that Marriott still doesn't offer free WiFi in its rooms, but they have that problem all over the world.

All rooms are facing the river Danube. But ofcourse the higher you go, the better the view. The location is great, right in the heart of the city, and just a 5 minute walk from the nearest subway station.

Having visited over a dozen of Marriotts world-wide, I'd have to say the in-house restaurant (called "Peppers!) is far beyond what we were used to. They offer a great cuisine, great service, a very nice atmosphere, and all that at an even better price. It was so good, and for Marriott standards cheap, we didn't eat out once in our 3-day stay.

A final tip for people arriving by plane: just get the shuttle service (airportshuttle.hu) from the airport. It is incredibly simple, easy and cheap. A taxi just isn't worth it.

Room Tip: Don't worry about river view, they all have it. But a higher floor is always a nice extra.

Marriott is very much a standard to work from. You are generally assured quality wherever you stay on the planet. This one is no different. A little on the expensive side but not by much, although do expect to pay tax which is quite high in Hungary.
The restaurant is okay. Only ate breakfast there.
Bar drinks are expensive by any standard.
Located on the river front the hotel is a short walk from most of the downtown attractions so ideally located.

Room Tip: Most rooms overlook the river one way or another. Get a room as high up as you can and try visit the...

This hotel is situated right on the Danube and has an excellent Executive lounge, fantastic fitness center spa, and courteous and helpful English speaking staff. The restaurant and bar are a bit overpriced, but there are plenty of options in the area. Convenient to shopping, tourist sites, and metro stops.

Room Tip: use Marriott status to get Executive lounge access - a huge perk at this hotel

I have been travelling to Budapest for the last 10 years and been staying in several locations. This is the best hotel I've stayed in especially after the renovation. The staff has good English as well as being very welcoming. The wifi and gym is good (great view from the gym over the river). The bar and restaurant is good with funky decor.

This hotel is in a great location right on the river. Provides great outdoor seating for drinks and people watching. Restaurant was great - for both breakfast buffet and dinner. Dinner was a good value. Menu is extensive and varied and has dishes that will appeal to picky eaters. Front Desk Staff all speak English and very helpful with recommendations on sightseeing and transportation. Lobby bar is very nice and has a nightly desert buffet that was excellent. Marriott lounge for rewards members was very good - continental bkfst, desert buffet, etc. Rooms are good size - more in line with what we get in the US versus other Marriotts in Europe.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a corner room facing the river. Has a balcony and sitting area and worth it for the view...
