The Marriott is perfectly located on the left bank (Hotel row) of the Danube with a perfect view of the national palace on the hill (VARHEGY) across the river, and the graceful Chain Bridge which lights up at night. very relaxed lobby with warm colored reddish carpeting has almost the feel of a British pub and a lobby pianist plays soothing music much of the time. Foreign newspapers such as the Int'l Herald Tribune, Financial Times, WSJ, and even USA Today are available to catch up on the news as a bevy of cute young waitresses in miniskirts flit about attentively, serving drinks, snacks, or full meals. A fantastic pastry bar is in the middle of the lobby -- all you can put away with the coffee for one reasonable price. Very active bar area in the evening with lively singles activity and elegant ladies of the night for the more adventurous with deep pockets. Large dining room with option of dining on the terrace overloooking the Danube in good weather. Generally very friendly and efficient English speaking staff . Short walk to elegant shopping street, Vaci Utca, or take a stroll on the riverside promenade known as the Corso --just out the doors. Ah yes -the rooms -- most have great river and castle views and are exceptionally comfortable. Top floor has an all day VIP lounge with gratis snacks and drinks, plus free computer use and a variety of reading materials as in an airport VIP lounge. Cuisine is somewhat limited but the sunday champagne brunch is a true banquet and weekly specials offer changing ethnic specialities. All in all the Marriott is probably the best buy in town at the upper end of the multi star hotel offerings, and easily the most comfortable and user friendly. And one more goodie, an xlnt fitness club with jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room, at no extra charge, is open till ten PM.

If you are lucky you will get a room with a north facing view in the wing of the hotel that is perpendicular to the main building, which parallels the Danube. We had room 708 and the views were spectacular. Also book the hotel with executive lounge privileges...worth every penny for the relaxed atmosphere, free access to the internet, and breakfast and evening hors d'oeuvres.
If you are arriving by train have the hotel book you one of their taxis. 4,000 HUF (about $21) is worth the price to be met and whisked away to the hotel without having to hassle with a new country, currency, and taxi queues.
When we were there it was 35C/95F and too hot to walk around this big city. We booked a private 3-hour tour in an air conditioned car with an English speaking guide. Took us all over the city and delivered us back to the hotel. Cost for 2: 32,000HUF ($170), plus 3,000HUF ($16) non-obligatory tip.

Generally speaking, I find the Marriott a good hotel; The location is good (besides the nearby attractions it's also close to the metro and the tram stations) and you get to have a priceless view from your room of the Danube river.
There are two comments though I would like to add and hope the hotel management will look into them. I suggest other travelers to the hotel be aware of them and tell it to the management too during their stay (I didn't have the time unfortunately because of my busy schedule):

1. When I came last week the air condition in the room didn't work very well and they had to bring a technician to fix the problem. My colleague who stayed in another room had the same problem. Maybe It is better the whole air condition system be fixed, afterall people don't want to sleep in a sauna...
2. The business lounge is very nice with a wonderful balcony and a view. The staff is very kind (I tipped the girls who work there for their hard work and I suggest anyone coming there tip this hard working girls too). My only complaint is that unlike Hilton for example which offers sandwiches and cakes at noon time, in Marriott Budapest, you get few cookies and some potato snacks. It will be more respectable to have sandwiches and cakes served, afterall it is a 5* hotel, not my home kitchen....

Oh and one more remark I almost forgot; for the business travelers or private people using the business lounge, who pay extra for the executive room to get the business lounge access, it would be logic if there was free internet in the room.

What a hidden treasure! Located near everything, with a beautiful boardwalk atmosphere along the river, our only regret was that we only stayed two nights.
Although the exterior seems somewhat drab, the interior is exceptional in every way. This hotel was top of the line for service and all amenities!

Room Tip: If given the choice, include the breakfast buffet!!!

This Marriott is ideally located for just about everything. It is on the Pest side right along the Danube. The sweeping views of the Buda Castle are amazing. They had a promotion where you could pay a little extra for the executive floor which gave you breakfast, snacks, drinks, internet, etc in the special room on the upper floor. This was definitely worth it. There was a large patio there overlooking the Danube with amazing views. The rooms were well appointed and the bathroom was fine. It was minutes from the pedestrian shopping street, the market, canal cruises, and was an easy walk across the Danube to get to the Castle area. A perfect location for a weekend in Budapest.
