This is a mainly no car haven for tourists and locals where everyone is either on foot or cycling. It's an island in the middle of the Danube and is easily accessible from either side. There is a symbolic statue at the far end of Buda meeting Pest. There are all sorts of outdoor sports going on, and the lido is magnificent. it looks Soviet era, and has loudspeakers which are intimidating and very brutal architecture. The assortment of pools is amazing, and you can see that locals go there to be seen. There are fountained pools, children's pools and serious swimming pools (with or without fountains) and refreshments stands at the side. There are also places to sunbathe...never mid the indoor spas, this is a must visit!

A lovely respite in the centre of this big city. Nice to simply wander around. Sit and enjoy the gorgeous fountain while cooling your burnt out feet in the water. Worth a walk. Can hire a bike or electric car if you want but it is only 2.5 K in length so walking is very doable.

Margaret Island is in the middle of the Danube. It can be reached via a bridge. Once on there you can get a break from touristy Budapest and hang out with the locals - either by enjoying a 5km run once around the island (the have a special runners' track all around the island) or by joining local Budapest families in the open air lido with slides, water features and fun all around.

We stayed in one of the hotels on the island, so had time to explore. It's a lovely place to just stroll around or jog if you are energetic. There are a couple of restaurants and some street food stalls at the city end of the island. There is a modern fountain with a water and music show in the evenings again at the city end of the island. You can get a local bus from one end to the other or there are various bike type vehicles to rent.
We tried to get a water taxi off the island but found that they only run at weekends.
There is a small zoo and some beautiful gardens.
Overall a lovely place to explore, you have no idea that you are in the middle of a city.
