We walked around Margaret Island and enjoyed the vegetation but we couldn't find one open place to drink a coffee. That was a bummer. In addition seem the building pretty rotten and are ugly.

We made a stop during our city tour here, and walked around for an hour. We didn't see anything interesting and the only good thing with the island was the gluhwein we bought from the small kiosk in the middle of the island. Probably very nice with nicer weather, but on wintertime I wouldn't bother.

We had a 4 night stay in Budapest in January and our original plan was to take a day trip to Vienna. We changed our mind last minute and as such had a more relaxing day in Budapest, which involved a walk along Margaret Island.

First mistake - we decided to catch the Metro to the furthest end of the island away from the centre, and then walk back to the city. Had to get off in not the nicest area and do a long, cold, boring walk over a featureless bridge. Once we got onto the island we could see the running track, which is an excellent facility, and it was well used. We walked the full length of the island and all we really saw were run down buildings and graffiti, it didn't look very well cared for at all.

I'm guessing in summer it's much more appealing, and once we got to the city-end it got busier and there were cycles for hire etc which could be fun, but in winter the only redeeming feature was the gentleman selling yummy hot wine from a small stand which was sorely needed!

If you're here in winter and you absolutely have to see it, then just make sure you aren't sacrificing any better sights.

My family and I bike and walk at Margit Island as often as we can, and we just LOVE IT! There are amazing parks for children of all ages on the island, and the bike trails are perfect for families with small children, as well as people of all ages. Beautiful scenery, lovely gardens, good restaurants on the island.....great, great place to visit while in Budapest!

This is a lovely place to go for a walk or bike ride (you can hire bikes) on a nice day or if you are feeling romantic there are also horse drawn carriages.
