Description: Siculus coquus et Sicula mensa...that is the Sicilian cook and Sicilian table. According to a Roman saying this is the secret to a healthy life. They came, saw and conquered: the Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Angevins, Hapsburgs, the Bourbons...Yes, every one of them! All these people, they left something in Sicily - Trinacria, for example, belonging to Greek mythology, the Gorgon in the middle and the three legs as tips to protect the island. The Arabs, skilled breeders of goats and lambs, and with them their milk, processed caciocavallo, provola pecorino. The testimony of the Saracens from the "sweet tooth" in Sicily is a legacy left by the nuns who handed down the memory, and it is thanks to them that today we have the real dough, cassata and Siculus coquus et Sicula mensa "cannoli". With the succession of all these peoples, Sicily today has a very diverse cultural heritage, that leaves a lasting impression for life, the memories of all those travelers who have had the opportunity and the chance to visit it. Between the oleanders and colorful bougainvillea, under the shade of the thick foliage of olive trees, savoring the delicacies of Sicilian cuisine, including fresh fish of the sea, the warm sun that enriches and gives an unmistakable flavor to fruits and vegetables, sipping her wine noblest, is unforgettable. Equally memorable are the inhabitants of this fantastic island, famous for their warm welcome and availability, full of life, with their kindling a sense of humor, with the inimitable "coppola" placed on their heads, with a joyful noise you preach good appetite. This atmosphere we are ready to offer here in Budapest! "Baciamo le mani!"(kind of typical Sicilian regards) Salvo Sgroi and La Coppola Team

“Overpriced. Average Food. Horrible Service.”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! Anyone who is looking for a nice Italian restaurant should definitely NOT go to La Coppola. We went there last week and I must say it was by far the worst experience I have ever had in any restaurant around the world.

To start with the restaurant is incredible overpriced. There are far better options in the beautiful town of Budapest. The interior is badly chosen and reminds too much of a corporate place rather than a real Sicilian restaurant as the owner claims.

In fact, the authenticity of this "Sicilian" place must be questioned. A quick look on the wine menu verifies that this place is probably not even Italian. The description used was simply translated using Google translator (photo)

The food was for European standards just average. I would not give this place more than 2 months before it will be bankrupt in Italy. For a starter we had a mixed plate of meat. The salami was the one which is used for the pizza. Hardly any taste and super industrial. Same goes for the Mozzarella, which was of low quality and far from being Mozzarella di Bufala as written on the menu.

The pasta dishes were of even worse quality. Never had a more monotonous tasting pasta before (Norma it was called). My neighbour opted for the Orata, which he immediately regretted once it arrived. The smallest piece of filet I have encountered on a poorly presented plate with 3 slices of lemons. Welcome to the 80s.

Lets talk for the service a moment. I do not even know where to start. The waiter who spoke broken Italian was the rudest waiter who ever served me. This man should not be working in the service sector!! When a girl at our table complained (in a nice way) that she received something she has not ordered the waiter insisted that the dish was correct. After the whole table agreed that the food was in no way aligned with what was written on the menu, she confronted the waiter again. His response was "Yes, but is it good or not?!?". He then went on and blamed the chef for the mistake. I do not think that the client cares who fault it is!! The waiter was then so well educated to complain about the girl in Italian with people on our very table!!! This guys needs to visit some serious school in Switzerland.

Well, after paying and not leaving a dime of tip (surprise surprise), a friend and me went back to complain to the owner. While 3 waiters lined up behind the waiter and insulted us. That’s how you treat clients. Only after mentioning to write a review on tripadvisor the owner took us seriously and tried to "bribe" us with a cheap bottle of wine, which we thankfully rejected.

The self acclaimed star chef and rising hero in Budapest gastronomy scene is in fact not better than his waiter. He was sitting in the restaurant, playing cards with friends and drinking wine. His cloths were anything but appropriate for a restaurant. Not a single second he was in the kitchen as he proudly claims on his website.

To conclude, if you are looking for restaurant with below average Italian food, want to pay high prices for it and be treated like [--]. La Coppola is the place to be!

I am SalvatorE Sgroi and I'm ITALIAN, contrary to what you might imagine, your review offends my intelligence and that of guests we had the pleasure to serve in my SICILIAN restaurant!!!!

I do not understand where it comes your "gourmet verve", NOTICED that your great reviews in other cities do not go beyond that fast food and similar, perhaps this is the reason why it seemed that my restaurant is overprised for your pocket!!!

If I play cards or joke with friends, is certainly not your business, I have my day off (which i spend in the restaurant) and in this case I have valid substitutes, they also ITALIAN.

I am working in this field for almost 20 years, and noticed your tender age, when I began my studies in FOOD you were not born yet, so once again I do not feel the weight of your review.

You really have the courage to talk about service?
I personally have spent more than 40 minutes to allow you to pay your bill separately, person to person, you were over 20!
You have blocked the work of a restaurant for more than 40 minutes, the other waiters and the other tables had to wait patiently for your counts and various problems with your NOT WORKINGS credit cards!

I conclude by telling you that you are not correct, I would not have offered no economic bottle for nothing .... you and your friend are returned back TO THE RESTAURANT to explain where you think it was wrong..........that took me another 30 minutes out in the cold to apologize for the incident, offering you a drink in a welcoming feeling.

“Great evening with my girlfriend and a cannoli :)”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

Last week I was in Budapest, and I went to Trattoria Lacoppola with my girlfriend. I found this restaurant on tripadvisor.com.
Normally I like hungarian cousine, but this time I wanted to try italian food.
It's a great sicilian restaurant,
We ordered pasta (Spaghetti with mussels in white wine sauce and Swordfish penne with aubergine and fresh menta) and a cannoli.
Everything was excellent. My girlfriend prefered cannoli :)

Thanks guys, I will come back :)

“One of the best italian restaurants in the town”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

Near Ferenciek tere, in a beautiful part of the city you can find this restaurant.
As I understand the owner and the chef is from Sicily, and they bring also real italian cuisine here.
We ate there a Calzone pizza and a Pasta with king prawns & porcini mushrooms, plus for dessert profitterol and tiramisu. The price was correct the food was delicious. I recomend this place to anyone.
