“What a surprise!”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

We went to Budapest on a budget, and were looking for a cheap way to stay. Elvis Guesthouse came out as cheap and good, and indeed it was! We booked a studio - which is not at the main building, but a bit more to the center. It's a pretty large duplex studio: kitchen with two heaters, a fridge, and dishes and cutlery. Also a private shower and toilet, a two-person bed.
But the best thing was, it's so amazing close to the center of Pest, only 10 minutes walk from Parlament, a lot of bars and restaurants close by (Liszt Ferenc is just around the corner).
The only bad thing was the fact that on the opposite side of the street there's a bar... and a quite lively one too.

Room Tip: Studios are big and not expensive at all. Just don't forget: bring a towel and think about break...

This is a tiny set of rooms round a central desk and kitchenette, behind 3 lots of locking doors/gate. The location is very good but you would not find this place in the dark - signage is poor and the entrance is shared by housing block residents. The graffti could put you off but the anonymity is not a bad thing for being low key in a capital city. The 2 male staff we saw during our stay were very helpful, (saw them mornings usually), their English was sound and the simple daily inclusive breakfast served after 9 a,m. was pleasant, (salami, rolls, cheese slices, hot drinks, juice). Rooms are clean with no TV and our's had no plug in the sink - not an common occurence when we used to travel to communist countries! You basically use the room to sleep though we had an ensuite and the shower was hot and a good pressure. Towels, bedding are provided and are clean but not changed by staff - so if you want this you ask...no maids here. You can cook your own food in the kitchenette and there are shops to buy it nearby. Main issue is the risk of having noisy neighbours - we suffered a group of youngsters for a couple of days who seemed to want to shout all night, bang doors and come in and out at all hours. We were a bit unlucky really. However, overall this place is excellent value for money (cheap and cheerful) and served us well over the 5 days we were there.

Room Tip: Don't forget to take a sink plug. We were next to the front door which can be bad if you get oth...

We had a big room, with big double bed, clean and modern bathroom, heat is OK, WiFi perfect. Staff really friendly and position of the guesthouse is in the city centre. Price is also great, and you dont need credit card to book a room.

Good points:
-Nice location near metro station Blaha Lujza Tér; excellent transport connections. Walking to the very center takes approx. 20 minutes. Defenitely doable.
-Super friendly staff. Really helpful, with a good command of English.
-Very cheap! We paid 77 euro for a double room for 3 nights. That is about 13 euro p.p.p.n. !
-Rooms are quite ok. Neat and clean. There is a bed, a closet and a shower. No TV, hostel-like atmosphere, but if luxury is not an absolute requirement, it is alright.
-Cozy.

Mediocre points:

-Breakfast consists of some bread, butter, salami, jam, cereals, coffee and tea. Thats it. Actually, I dont find this a problem at all, but for some guests this might be a bit of a downer. It sure is tasty and always fresh however.
-A bit loud when people are walking through the hallway.

Bad points:
-No shampoo and shower gel in the shower. I never take such stuff when I go on vacation, since it is pretty standard for accomodations to supply these things. Had to buy them...
-Bathroom wasn't the cleanest i've ever seen.
-Towel had a bit of an awkward smell... not unclean or something, just a funny smell.

All in all, I had a wonderful stay. If you don't care to much about luxury and you don't feel like paying 120 Euro per night, you should definitely like it here!

The guest house is a small and friendly place near to Keleti rail station and the metro. You can walk 20mins or catch transport into the tourist areas towards the river so ideally located just out of the way of noise. A light breakfast is provided to get you started. All in all had a great stay with my girlfriend.
