We had a wonderful evening at the Arnyas Restaurant in Budapest, on the Buda side of the river. We spent the evening with two special Hungarian friends. What a beautiful spot to spend the evening. Great friends and great food. Having something cooked on the grill when we are so far from home was a great feeling. Everything we had was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful in making our selection. When we left everyone came out to say goodbye to us. We will return.

My wife and I both had grilled pork steak with special seasonings and fried potatoes with onions. Wow.

We took bus 128 from Szell Kalman Ter and got off on the 5th stop. Right in front of the restaurant. How easy.

We spent a lovely evening here in mid May. It was warm enough to sit outside under the canopy of old trees. The service was professional and spotless.
The menu has a great selection of traditional Hungarian dishes. They were delicious and nicely presented. It is well priced and not a tourist trap. Higly recommended.

We visited this restaurant twice on our recent 5 day trip to Budapest. It is a short walk from the Janos hospital trolley stop on Szilagyi Erzsebet fasor. The trolley stop is the end station for the 59 trolley and a number of others stop there too, along with buses.

Both times we were there I had the Turos Csusza (Noodles with cottage cheese and bacon bits) which is delicious and very reasonably priced. The garlic cream soup was wonderful! My husband tried the Turkey breast with galuska (hand made noodles) and mushroom sauce and their homestyle cole slaw. It was fantastic and also reasonable priced. There is a variety of beer and wine available. Their house wine, I forget the name, was delicious.

The second time we came with relatives and tried a variety of entrees including a pork dish with grilled vegetables and another with beef. Both raved about their meals and just about licked the plates clean! One of us had the gulyas soup - delicious. The only diappointment was the Chicken Paprika which my husband tried to see if it matched our home made and it did not. Probably not enough paprika for our tastes. The bread they serve is also fresh and just perfect for mopping up every last drop of sauce.

The desserts were delectable: Floating Island - a custard with merengue "islands", a fruit tart and Gundel Palacsinta - pancakes ala Gundel.

The restaurant also has an outdoor terrace with umbrellas (where we sat both times), though they are not really needed since it is situated under some magnificent old chestnut trees (Arnyas means "shady"). There is also a small childrens' play area.
The menu is also in English and German and the waiter spoke some English too.
We will always make an effort to come back here when in Budapest!
