“Yellow Zebra Bike Tours; Budapest”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

We did the 3.5 hr. bike tour of Budapest with Yellow Zebra guide, Andrea Varga. The bikes were comfortable and easy to handle. Andi is well versed in the Hungarian history and has a pleasant, friendly and articulate manner. We visited most of the important sites to get an overview of Budapest including Matthias Church, Szechenyi Baths, Parliament, Great Synagogue, Opera House, Heroe's Square, City Park, St. Ivan's Basilica, the Danube and more. Riding a bicycle through the streets gives a true feeling of being in Budapest. This is a very worthwhile first day adventure. Ask for Andi. She is excellent.

“just rented a bike: easy and okay!”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

We rented some bikes for 24h and rode along a tributary of the Danube to Szentendre, a little pittoresque village with galeries, shops and good restaurants. The road is somewhat marked with green signs (yellow letters). It's a nice trip (about 25km) that takes you away from the busy city centre. We came back earlier than expected and 'Yellow Zebra' only charged us for half a day.
oh make sure you have enough money with you or credit card, because the guarantee of the bikes is pretty high (15.000 forints).

“Fun and interesting tour of the city”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

The Yellow Zebra bike tour of Budapest (booked online through Absolute Budapest Tours) was probably the best way to fill 3 and a half hours and get a feel for all that Budapest has to offer. I would recommend it as a way to begin your Budapest visit - you can then go back and visit the various attractions in your own time.

One important thing - if you book online or have a voucher, you should print it out before arriving. They do have a computer and internet, so I was able to log on and print my email, but if you forget your email password or something else, it could be awkward.

Our group was small (three people - me and a married couple who were in Budapest for a wedding), which was great as when we stopped it was easy to hear what Fanni (the tour guide) was saying - no craning over someone else's shoulder to see and hear. We made regular stops and in some places, Fanni looked after the bikes and gave us 10-15 minutes to wander. Fanni was very knowledgeable and had a good sense of humour so the experience was overall very enjoyable.

I would advise that you should be comfortable on a bike in an urban setting and have at least a reasonable level of fitness, as the climb to the Buda castle would be quite difficult for anyone who is very unfit. You don't have to be superfit, but especially on a hot day like today, if you were very unfit I think you would struggle to get up the hill. Also, although Budapest is very bike-friendly, you have to keep your wits about you to adapt to the switches from main road to side road, to bike lane, to cycling on the pavement. It was easy enough for a small group of us to follow Fanni, but I can imagine in a big group, the person at the back might get left behind or be unsure of whether they have right of way.

At the end of the tour, Fanni gave us some good recommendations for places to eat and drink and took into account what we said we were interested in (like pancakes!).

The same company does bike tours of Prague and I wouldn't hesiitate to use them again (a good excuse to visit to Prague). Overall, I'd strongly recommend this as a fun way to get outdoors and see a lot of the city!

“Good tour”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

We were in a small group of 5 people with our tour guide which made it quite intimate. Our guide good information about each stop and kept us entertained for four hours. It gave us a good grounding on what was where in Budapest, and where we should visit on the other days of our trip. The day we did the tour was the hottest day by far, which the guide took into account with frequent stops in the shade, and to refill bottles at free water fountains.
