Owner description: The Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum is a thrilling, unique and moving place. Visitors can learn about the WWII and the 1956 revolution as well as the Cold War in relation to this former TOP SECRET nuclear bunker. It had an important role during the war and it was classified until 2002 and opened as a museum in 2008. The place ensures a real time warp into the past. Mobiles are not working inside. Do not expect a regular museum. One hour long tour departs every hour in English. Guide books are available in several languages. Unforgettable experience underneath the Castle Hill. The entrance is only about 5 minutes walk from the famous Matthias-Church of Buda Castle.

“Well Worth the time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013

We enjoyed the underground tour and history lesson which lasted about 70 minutes. Our guise was excellent and enthusiastic. A geat spot to cool off on a hot day, as the temp underground is about 4o degrees less than above.

“A BIT DIFFERENT!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013

We visited Hospital in the Rock recently and enjoyed the visit very much. The displays are well set out complete with wax work figures. Every hour a tour is conducted in English by a very informative guide. A film is shown at the start of the tour giving the background and also showing news bulletins of the era.
Our only criticism is that because it is the busy holiday season the size of the group was quite large (25) and so was hard at times to see the displays.

Well worth the visit!

“Very interesting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013

This a a museum which is well worth a visit. Located under the castle, it is a secret hospital which was used during WW2 and then later used as a supposedly nuclear proof bunker during the cold war. The tour takes you through various rooms and is fascinating for people interested in this period of history.

“Amazing (especially on hot days)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013

This seems to be one of the hidden gems, since it was quite empty on the day I visited. You are guided through a maze of caves that was turned into a hospital at the time of WW2, and which continued to be used as such until very recently. You see real beds, instruments, and places, and another part of it was a bunker during the Cold War, so you can see the communications, tracking and purification devices in case of a nuclear attack.
They offer you coats as you go in, since it's quite cool inside, but if you go in the summer you'll be thankful for the coolness, don't bother with the coats :)
