Owner description: The Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum is a thrilling, unique and moving place. Visitors can learn about the WWII and the 1956 revolution as well as the Cold War in relation to this former TOP SECRET nuclear bunker. It had an important role during the war and it was classified until 2002 and opened as a museum in 2008. The place ensures a real time warp into the past. Mobiles are not working inside. Do not expect a regular museum. One hour long tour departs every hour in English. Guide books are available in several languages. Unforgettable experience underneath the Castle Hill. The entrance is only about 5 minutes walk from the famous Matthias-Church of Buda Castle.

Definitely worth to come and visit, the tour guide isdetailed but sometimes need less extra information. The price is also fair but in the souvenir shop a bit overpriced:) If somebody interested in the Cold War history, go and check it:)

“A hidden little gem”

Came across this by accident but it was well worth the visit. Guided tours only on the hour in English & Hungarian. You also get to see the Nuclear shelter

“Interesting place to see.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2013

Worth a look around, entry was a little high for Budapest but reasonable.
The other reviewers mentioned the guide bringing the tour to life, unfortunately our guide was not quite as immersive, but she was ok all the same, the tour felt a little rushed and did not quite go into enough detail at times.

“Cool museum worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2013 via mobile

This is a museum located in the very old tunnels under the castle district in which a secret hospital was built during WW2 and later also a nuclear bomb shelter. It's very authentic with a lot of the original equipment still there and life size dolls showing how it was used. Only guided tours (about 1h). No photography allowed, but you get to sound the alarm bell!

They sell cheap WW2 gasmasks (4?) and stuff in the souvenir shop.

“Really interesting if a little rushed”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2013

Fascinating museum set into the rock and the tour starts with a short film in Hungarian with English subtitles followed by a tour of the labyrinthine tunnels and wards of the former hospital. Several times the guide chided anyone not keeping up and there were lots of photos and information boards but not really enough time to take it all in as we were rushed onto the next part. The most moving part was the large ward with models lying in bed - a hush descended over the group as we all reflected on the horror that must been experienced but almost on cue we were summoned to the next room and the moment was lost.

There was a lot of information to take in and my regret was not having time to read all the information boards - those I did manage were excellent. Before the hour was up we were in the shop and the guide was spiriting away another group.

This has the potential to be a five star attraction if only they would invest in another giude and make the tours 10-15 minutes longer. The tunnels are large enough to take 2 groups at different stages of their tours.

Still worth doing this but they are missing a trick marching folk around so quickly and then berating them if they hold back to read the information!
