To explore the city of Budapest what we would recommend is to buy tickets for the 'green hop on hop off' buses. There is a stand for these located all over the city. You will get a pass for 48hrs for £20 each, get on the bus and you will get an excellent tour, with commentry through your headsets. The tour lasts about 2.5 hrs takes you round all the main sights (Heroes Square/city centre/bridges/river/citadel/castledistrict/palaces/museums/parliament etc, etc), nominated stops on your map are throughout this tour and at 3 stops you can get off and onto the 'pink' bus which gives you a different tour route which lasts for an hour. You also get a book of discount tickets which includes 2 free trips each on a river cruise(day time/night time) which has commentary and a bar, very reasonably priced) also there are tickets in your book for restaurants/museums/baths/zoo etc etc, which sometimes save you up to 50%, they are genuine and not a gimmick! NB, we advise you purchase your bus tickets at approx mid day, then you can still use them on the morning of the 3rd day!! . You get an excellent city map with all the stops identified, you can also get a free drink and sample a free bowl of Goulash at one of the stops. This is an excellent way of seeing the City whereby you can get your bearings and decide what attractions you would like to visit another day, and then you can use the bus to get there. We found the drivers and guides very polite.

“Hop on hop off tour in Budapest”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

The hop on hop off tour on the lime green bus in Budapest is well worth the F6,000 cost. Very comfortable and convenient. The fact that the ticket is good for 48 hours is a real plus. We did the complete route first and then decided where we wanted to see more. Many of the stops were within reasonable walking distance so we did not have to do the whole ride again to get where we wanted to go. They were absolutely on time for the stops.

“Warm, regular buses. Informative and considerate guide.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2013

We had three days in Budapest. The first day I took the free walking tour. The second day my wife and I took the Hop on Hop off bus tour recommended by our hotel. I am always dubious about recommendations from hotels thinking they promote the ones which give them the biggest inducement. However Aron on the free walking tour explained to me that the green and pink bus tour was the best (but I do see the bus company offers a free walking tour so maybe that is reciprocal promotion!)
You pay the same - 6000HUF - whether you get your ticket from the bus company or from your hotel.
We got on a green bus at Astoria and it went to the start point where we changed onto another bus to start the tour. When the bus got to Heroes' Square we decided to get off and take some photos and get the next bus but the guide said they would wait long enough for us all to take photos. As it was very cold (January 2013) we appreciated that.
We stayed on the bus to the castle then got off to walk around the castle, Matthias Church and Fisherman's Bastion and to have lunch.
The green buses ran every half hour in the morning and every hour in the afternoon. While we had lunch the next bus went so we walked back to the river and to our hotel. Not a problem, just our choice.
The buses were warm and the headsets were easy to use and the lady guide was helpful and informative.
We did not use the pink bus as that simply goes up one side of the Danube and back down the other in a circular route. We had walked much of that route anyway.
On our last day we took the river cruise which went up to and around Margaret Island. This was an opportunity to take some photos of the Parliament building, the bridges and riverside churches. It was very cold on the open deck and Margaret Island is quite long and rather boring to look at from the river so I went back inside. They provide blankets for you to keep warm inside.

“well worth the money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

We arrived on a wet and cold day and decided against walking so we took (not to enthusiastic) the Program Centrum Hip Hop tour. For 600 HUF each we had a 48 hrs window to use their 2 routes – green and pink. It was a pleasant surprise. The busses were warm and comfortable; the ear phones were good and easy to select the desire languages. The music and the commentaries were appropriated. Extra on the pink route it was (our luck) English only guide and with only few people in the bus she was able to add a lot to her standard delivery by answering our questions. During the 2 days we use them extensively to get from point to point and although we had to wait (they come every ½ hr) we did not encounter a full bus that could not accommodate us. I notice the wait for the public transportation was not shorter…However in full tourist season might be a problem to get back on the bus if nobody gets out…
Including in the price there were a coupon book. From it we took advantage to get a free 1hr Danube cruise (there are 2 available – 1 day , 1 night) however we were lucky to take a late day one that came back after sun set… so we enjoyed both type of views. Forget the commentaries… just enjoy the scenery. Plus we got discounts in some places that just happened to wanted to go- State Opera tour and some cafes.
Note: There were some other similar tours – but none looked to be as good as this one.

“They have the best hop on hop off buses and excursion tours in Budapest”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2012

Got their tickets for 2 days hop on hop off sightseeing buses (The Green and Pink buses), and they came with 2 free boat rides. The boat ride in the evening is a must. It's so beautiful. Also came with a coupon book which is a good deal. The free Goulash soup is awesome! Also signed up for their one day Danube Bend tour. The tour guide Imre is so knowledgeable and you can learn so much Hungarian history and culture from him. Even though only 2 people signed up for the tour, not only didn't they cancel the tour, but we feel like we got a very good private tour and treated so well. Definitely recommend this tour company!
