Best party in Europe!

I went on this pub crawl in October when we were taking a break with other Erasmus students. We try to travel as much as possible and we figured that pub crawls are the best way to discover a city's nightlife when you don't spend there much time. And of course, they're usually great. Still, we've seen many pub crawls so far but it surprised us how cool this one was!

It wasn't as crowded as the one we took in Prague, especially becuase we went there in the end of summer and not in the end of October, but it turned out that it's much better with a smaller group!! It was much more personal, and the company was really fun.

We've found really great bars in Budapest, the whole downtown is full of them, but the selection of places was still awesome on the pubcrawl! We went to 4 bars, a typical local bar, famous ruin bars and so on. I don't remember the last one clearly, except that I liked it and we got vodka as a welcome shot there.

Also, the guide was the best one I've met so far! She was fun, nice, and just simply cool. She wasn't an outsider but felt like a part of the group, only he knew everything we asked and told exciting stories now and then. She also gave us great ideas for the next day in the city and marked his favourite places on our map.

We had one of the best nights of the whole of Erasmus on this pub crawl! Hungarians sure know how to party!

Dear George M,

Thank you very much for your detailed review and the high ranking, we appreciate it a lot! Although our guests always seem satisfied during the tour - if they'd have any trouble, we'd solve it right away -, when it comes to reviews, we are more likely to hear discontented voices. It's simply human nature, we're getting louder about things we dislike than about those we don't, but its a bit disappointing after all. So thanks a lot again, you made our day!! :)

“Poor guides, poor choice of locations”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

The pub crawl we did was overall worthless. A good time was only because the other people on it were fun. The guides (they switched towards the end) did nothing aside from take us to place to place, virtually no interaction between the guides and the group. There were no free t-shirts. Our second stop of the crawl was Hooters, not what people travel all the way to Hungary for. A better time could have been had by simply researching some pubs on trip advisor, going on your on and talking to random to people. Overall, not worth 5 Euro let alone 15.

Dear Rick B,

Thank you for writing to us! Even though its not a message that'd be nice to receive, at least it gives us a chance to apologize to you. It's a shame that your evening went so bad, and we're sorry about all the mistakes we could have made.

Having said that, we'd still like to say a few words in the pub crawl's defense, as it would be a bit excessive to blame it in general for the experienced inconveniences. As thousands of people enjoy the tour year by year, it's always disappointing to realize that there'll always be people who feel discontented, but fortunately it is not even close to being general.

In order to reply to your review, we'd like to sum up in a nutshell a pub crawl's idea: it is about joining a group of other travelers in a foreign city so that you go out and have fun, actually, have an awesome night together. So why does it worth to attend a pub crawl?

1) For the company, as it is obvious you'll get to meet a lot of new people with whom you'll definitely have some common topics - like your travels. I'm not saying you shouldn't go out in the hopes of spending the night with local people who'll want to have a whole-night English conversation with you, but let's admit it is easier to get to know people when they're on a pub crawl precisely with the same intention. So, I'm glad you realized too that this was good about this pub crawl.

2) For the guides, who'll take care of you throughout the whole evening. They lead you so you don't have to worry about the route, they keep everyone together and make sure no one gets lost and so on. So taking the group from place to place is a major part, but of course, being a part of the group is just as important for them! That's why they drink and talk with the pub crawlers, but there's one catch: there are much more guests than guides, and no one gets assigned a private guide except if they take a private tour. As you can't spend the exact same amount of time with every single guest on the pub crawl, neither do we. We're trying, but sometimes there will be people with whom we barely got to talk to. Still, it is a shame, and we apologize that this has happened to you this time!

The problem is that on the night you're talking about (we could find out which one was it because of the switching guides), the group actually consisted of 2 smaller groups. There weren't a lot of interactions between these, but both guides spent the whole night talking to our guests. If only one of the groups wanted to talk to them, and you were on the other half, it is indeed a shame. It's also bad that we couldn't get the 2 groups to talk more, that might be the most important problem with that night.

Another thing, you should've had one guide for that night, but both of them enjoyed spending time with the group so much that they both stayed, almost until the end. I hope this proves a lot.

3) For the special offers, as more bars, extra drinks and T-shirts.

On this pubcrawl, we're visiting 4 bars, and you get a welcome shot in each of these. We finish the pubcrawl in a local dancing club, which is entry-free for our guests.

Hooters is a new place both on our route and in the city. The route varies, so it isn't always included, though both locals and our guests tend to find it a nice and fun place. As everyone has their own opinion, it's good to have 4 bars on the route - you'll surely like some of them, the decision is yours! We always include a small local bar, ruin pubs, bigger and more posh places - the general idea is to offer a wide variety of different types of places, so everyone will find something of their taste! We're sorry you were disappointed in Hooters.

Free T-shirts are given for coupons or occassionally as surprise gifts. Did you tell the guide that you had one? If you didn't, how would they have to know? People get their free t-shirts except if there's some misunderstanding, what could've happened in your case. We apologize for that, too. If that makes you feel any better, your group got one more welcome drink than they should've, as the guide managed to get you a last round in the last place, simply to be nice to you and make sure you have the best night out.

We're sorry that the crawl didn't work out for you but the guides got quite close to plenty of people on this exact crawl, and none of them seemed discontented at all. It would be nice if they read this and could back it up, now we only have photos to prove it. :) Again, we are sorry for your bad experience, we hope that at least you liked Budapest!

Kind regards,

“I had a really really great time!”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

I was there with my two best friends on our trip through Europe. We had a really great night! Met lots of fun people (although there were only swedes and brits) and partied in nice places. The guide wasn't crazy at all, as the flyer said, but we liked him very much anyway. One of the best nights on the Europe trip!

“What a night!”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

I went on this pub crawl with 2 friends, and we joined up with people from France, Ireland and Brazil, and two guides who knew the town intimately. We went to 5 rustic bars, including a Palinka bar, and a nightclub. I can honestly say it was an awesome night, everyone got chatting, the drink was flowing and it was great to see the more traditional bars, instead of the mainstream bars and clubs you see everywhere. There was a welcome drink in each bar included in the price of the crawl. Most of us did end up pretty drunk so would recommend making sure you know the way back to your accomadation in advance but it was a fantastic night! I would do it again!
