“Can't say enough good things about this!!!!”

The market tour and cooking lesson with Agnes and Istvan was one of the highlights of our visit to Budapest. They are both incredibly warm and generous people, it seemed like being invited into the home of dear old friend and not someone we had just met 60 minutes earlier. Agnes is a excellent instructor and is easily adaptable to our cooking skills levels, and culinary interests. The cooking lesson was informative and flowed at a pleasant pace. Not only did they provide cooking lessons, they provided excellent company as we shared wine and food in their home. We highly recommend the experience.

“An Unforgettable Evening of Hungarian Cuisine and Hospitality.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2011

No trip to Budapest is complete without a visit to Agnes and Istvan's friendly apartment! When I signed up for a cooking class I never expected that such hospitality, interesting people and great laughs would be part of the deal.

Agnes is just a well of information when it comes to Hungarian food and products and she shared it in such a comfortable way that it never felt like a 'lesson'. The opportunity to choose the menu and the hands-on approach they have made me feel very much at home and confident to try new things... like making dumplings :)

Istvan was the perfect host, keeping the conversation going, lending a hand with the cooking and keeping our wine-glasses topped up... What more could a girl ask for?

I can't wait to go back and I will definitely include a market-tour in my next class.

Thanks Agnes and Istvan, for a very special memory!

“One of our best experiences of the week in Hungary”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2011

This was one of our best experiences of the week in Hungary. It is not only a wonderful introduction to the cuisine and culture, but also a great way to connect with a local.
The Central Market where we bought the ingredients was the initial introduction to the food. You can do this on your own (we went back another day and had some terrific langos that’s sold on the upper level) but having someone who knows where things are and what to look for is a great help.
The class was relaxed and well arranged, with plenty of time to cook, drink wine and palinka, talk, interact and take pictures. Agnes is a charming hostess. Afterwards we all sat down and ate the authentic Hungarian dishes we made. The delicious food gave us a great feeling of accomplishment!
Agnes and her friend Maggie were very willing to discuss all manner of things of life in Budapest. This type of interaction is something that a typical traveler does not have, and gives you an insight into the country and the people.
The day after we came home we tried the recipes; of course they didn’t come out as well as the first time, but with practice we know they will improve. Overall, a memorable experience that we highly recommend.

“Do Not Leave Budapest Before Cooking With Agnes and Istvan”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2011

Had a wonderful authentic cooking lesson with Agnes and Istvan....so wonderful that I went back a second time! (agnes.barath@culinaryhungary.com) (www.culinaryhungary.com)

Aside from learning these amazingly delicious Hungarian recipes, it was fun to learn about Hungarian culture through the food. And to also leave with a knowledge of Hungarian food that will always stay with yme along with new friendships! Not to forget, being introduced to different Hungarian wines and Palinka:)

A very memorable experience!

“Brilliant home cooking experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2011

Agnes met us on the Saturday morning at the tram station with two baskets in hand. First we were off to the local market to buy the groceries for the cooking lesson from local producers and then we headed for her apartment and the cooking experience.

The cooking lesson was very well prepared, with easy to follow recepies, good tools. During the class we had time for cooking, tasting wines and learning about Hugarian cooking, culture and life in general.

Agnes and Istvan were both very friendly and helpful and easy going. Do take the opportunity to ask Agnes and Istvan about anything you would like to know about cooking, Budapest and life in Hungary.

All in all the cooking lesson was an amazing experience and a very memorable occassion and I'd warmly recommend it to people who like cooking, but also to people who would like to get under the skin of Budapest.
