I was recently in Budapest and after a a few long days of sightseeing my partner and I decided to just take it easy and do a Danube river cruise. We bought a ticket from a street vendor for a cruise left at 7 o'clock at night and serves a buffet dinner on board.

Let me tell you, seeing the city at night from the river during the wintertime is absolutely beautiful. The food was very good too, with plenty of different things to choose from. We got to taste stuffed cabbage, chicken paprika and greaves cream (a cream made of tiny bits of bacon), which are traditional Hungarian foods, they are definitely heavy, but they are delicious! If you don't eat meat, don't let that stop you from going, because they have a bunch of veggie dishes as well.

And did I mention they have live entertainment on board? There where three musicians playing gypsy music, which was also very interesting, as I'd never heard it before.

I say do the dinner cruise on the Danube if you're ever in Budapest, totally worth it for the sites, the food and the music. The staff is also super friendly and helpful!

We took the evening dinner cruise with music.
The photos looked lovely... Viewed from my office desk in chilly dank England. At first it seems that you are going to travel in a wonderful old river boat, gleaming with polished brass. Then you walk through to the little puddle jumper moored alongside!
I sat on a plastic bench with condensation from the windows slowly seeping into my new dress....we and another couple had made a bit of an effort...not necessary.
A small glass of something vaguely fizzy and an even smaller glass of local moonshine for my husband, then the smallest glass of red wine, then "please help yourself from the buffet " The food was terrible. All slopping around in an amorphous gloop. Goulash soup that the school dinner ladies would be ashamed of, small plates to discourage overeating ....didn't get to the desserts.
Value for money NOT.

This is a great way to see all the buildings wonderfully lit up at night. A river boat trip is always a unique viewpoint.

My only qualm is that the drinks service is slow enough so that most people probably don't get all their allotted drinks (you're given tokens at the start). We didn't get our first drink for about 25 minutes

We booked this for new year's day at 9pm. We had dinner and a 1.5 hour cruise for 14,900 HUF. We received 1 welcome glass of champagne and 1 complimentary glass of wine with a 4 course tasty buffet dinner. Whilst we ate we were serenaded by a cellist and 2 violinists who were very good. The staff on board were attentive and polite.

After dinner we had plenty of time still left to go up on the top deck to view the stunning scenery of the Danube at night.

This was a very relaxing and enjoyable end to a fantastic 5 days in one of the best cities I have visited.

We took an evening dinner cruise through this outfit. First you need to gather a 15 minute walk from the quay where you board the ship. Tables for eight, two drinks included and the worst buffet you can imagine. The tour officially takes two hours, however the boat is back in 75 minutes. Musicians were trying hard to bring some atmosphere, however many people chose to go outside a.s.a.p. to escape the large dinner area with its ugly lights, that reflected so much in the windows that the nicely illuminated buildings on the banks of the Danube were blocked out completely. Waste of money!!

Dear tge_7,

We're sorry to hear that you weren't satisfied with the program. In the photos you can see our ship, the Europa and the buffet dinner served on board. We use 8 different ships, but this is the only one where eight people sit at one table. The Europa is Budapest's largest day cruise ship and it can accommodate 300 people in the hall where the dinner was served. The reason we walk our guests to the embankment is because ships are not permitted to dock for a long time at the pier. The walk from the Danube Palace to the pier is approximately 7-8 minutes. We don't know where you were informed that the cruise takes two hours, because we advertise it as a 1,5 hour trip and stay within this time frame. If we are late in departing for some reason, we never cut the excursion short, it still lasts 1,5 hours. We'd like to know where you found this erroneous information, if it was online please send us the link, so we can correct the mistake. We're sorry you felt the cruise was short, we looked at our GPS data and found that the trip was indeed 90 minutes. We also regret to hear that you couldn't enjoy the view because of the indoor lighting. We've never received such a complaint before, but we thank you for your constructive criticism and in the future keep in mind the things that you've noted.

Best regards,
Hungaria Koncert Team
