We have eaten in some fanastic places while in Budapest so the bar is set very high.

The Borkonyha Winekitchen has fantasic food. Four of us ate here on a Friday evening, three courses each, and they were all excellent. My husband particularly enjoyed the venison and pigeon main. The chicken with lentils main was another hit.
They also have several specials on for both starters and mains, and I had both my options from there (black pudding starter, salmon main, both great) - so lots of choice.

Re the drinks - we started with a glass of the local sparkling wine which seems a traditional start in most restaurants, and is not pricey - less than £3 a glass.

We then ordered the cabernet syrah (2 bottles), which was not expensive and we enjoyed a lot. The great thing here though is if you all have different tastes, you can order so many by the glass that you can enjoy several different ones during your meal.
And they do serve the local hungarian beer for any who don't love wine!

The service was relatively prompt - it was just.... odd. We seemed to have a waiter with a slightly offish manner, while the others all seemed to be smiley, chatting in places to the diners, offering recommendations etc. Ours just nodded on occasion to acknowledge us and had quite a offish manner.

Not enough to ruin our meal at all - and we absolutely recommend this restaurant for the food and wine, and the rest of the staff seem good so might have just been an off day for ours.

Great food, fine wines, kind stuff (though they could speak a bit more English), nice decor, relaxing and cozy athmsphere; somewhat pricey, but worth it; and hey - it's the very center of the city afterall...

The restaurant and food was very good, but not the best which we tried in Budapest. We were among the early birds of the restaurant (early evening, few visitors) and did not feel very comfortable (with waiters chatting, watching us, and coming every 2 minutes to ask something).

We also had a feeling that we were pushed to buy certain dishes. The culmination of the eveniing was inclusion of the 10% tip into the bill - this spoiled the whole impression. This kind of trick is done only in the low level touristic places... This made us feel once again that the place is totally touristic.

Went for a starter and main (I had rabbit then rolled shoulder of lamb) and both were the sort of food quality and presentation that you would expect from a Michelin star restaurant. We also had a glass each of red, which was excellent. Total cost for two around £50 including the two glasses of wine.

This is a fabulous restaurant, obviously used to catering for the hoi-polloi. Perfect service and definately suitable for a special occasion. If you visit Budapest, this is a restaurant not to be missed.

Needed a late dining experience after flying in after 21:00. Friendly service and a very comprehensive wine list with helpful and skilled sommelier. Foie gras with a crispy finish was bizarrely subtle and saddle of rabbit was excellent. Mains were tasty if not a little on the small side. Well matched wine.
Small establishment with modern finishing, might have profited from more subtle lighting for more intimate and cozy feel.
Thumbs up. Give it a try.
