I was super excited when I came across the Taste Hungary website while searching for cool things to do in Budapest. After reading through the site and contacting Carolyn I felt like this tour was going to be legit, and not some generalized touristy cow herding.

I wrote her just a day before we were set to arrive and she was very accommodating. We showed up at the appointed time and Judit was there to meet us. She was not only extremely affable, but also incredibly knowledgeable on all the food/wine as well as the history of the region. It didn't feel like a cookie cutter tour either - she tailored it to our interests and questions. It felt almost as if she was a friend who lived there and was showing us around. I would highly recommend this tour if you have any interest in the culinary scene, both present and past, in Hungary.

We would have never experienced Hungary's food and wine without Gabor. The visits to the country vineyards as well as our stops along the way to various historical sites made our trip from Budapest to Vienna and back to Budapest the absolute highlight of our stay. We are very grateful to Gabor and Carolyn for our most memorable experience and introduction to Hungary.

Our group of 4 booked Taste of Hungary for the Vienna to Budapest Wine tour and their Culinary Walking tour in Budapest. With so many positive reviews, it's difficult to add anything that wouldn't sound the same, but here goes anyway. We had a GREAT time. Gabor was our guide, or probably for us, guardian. He fit right in with our sense of humor, as well as having a great one of his own, and made us feel very welcome and comfortable. He is also a very good driver. I add this because if you have taken driving tours around the world, the driving can sometimes be hit or miss, literally.
One of our group couldn't enjoy the lovely wines that Hungary has to offer, so they tailored our wine tour as more historical, but we did visit the Weninger Winery in Sopron, Hungary. This is an organic winery with excellent wines. The owner gave us a tour of his facility, an although we have toured other wineries, honestly, he gave us more information than any we have toured. Let me repeat, his wines are excellent, and organic. You can get them in the States, so please don't hesitate to try them.
We had an entire day with Gabor driving us mostly on back roads from Vienna to Budapest. We had some hilariously interesting driving adventures in Hungary, as I think the all the snow plows were on holiday. It was a very fun day.
We met Gabor the next morning by the market and continued with our Culinary walking tour. If you want to experience a country and it's culture, what better way than through their food. Gabor took us to small, local, traditional places. The food (and chocolate) was delicious. I should mention that we started out at the market with a shot (or two) of Unicum. This is a national drink of Hungary, an although it is an acquired taste, actually considered to be medicinal, after a few shots of this at 9:30 in the morning, everything after that tasted pretty good...
The food was good, the wine was good, the company and country was exceptional. If you go to Budapest don't miss this. Enjoy!

The tour started with a walk through the Central Market hall and also included a lolly shop, a chocolate shop, a pastry cafe and a delicious lunch. We finished up with some sampling of local wines. Our guide Dora was lovely and full of information not only about food but about the city and it's history. This tour was a great way to spend 4 hours in Budapest.

Finally writing this overdue review as we went wine tasting in the Eger region of Hungary way back in August. My husband and I were on a six month trip throughout Europe and I can honestly say that our wine tour with Taste Hungary was one of our best days!! Our guide Virag, was charming, informative and fun. The vineyards we went to felt like those places that you would never discover on your own - amazing wines, not touristy, local feeling, etc. The food that day was also delicious and so filling - we were stuffed!! We also couldn't believe what a bargain the whole day was, especially when compared to a day of wine tasting and transportation in other parts of Europe or in the US. We spent a lot of time in Budapest and ended up getting to know Carolyn and Gabor who started this company (great people) and learned about their other tours. Knowing them and what we know about Budapest, any tour they plan is going to be REALLY GOOD. If you are ever in Hungary, do not hesitate to book a tour with Taste Hungary, you will be missing out if you don't!!!
