“Great tours!”
Reviewed April 20, 2014

We spent several days touring with Andrea during our recent visit to Budapest, and by the time we left, our family all referred to her as a rock star! She showed us incredible sights, taught us about the history and culture of this beautiful city, and introduced us to delicious food. Andrea helped make Budapest one of our favorite places in Europe!

“Remembering Budapest”
Reviewed March 25, 2014 via mobile

Was just talking to a friend who is heading to Europe in May. Made us think about our trip to Budapest last May, and how excellent Andrea Makkay was as our tour guide. Would recommend her to anyone.

“Loved Andrea and Zsuzsa”
Reviewed December 12, 2013

Andrea Makkay went above and beyond in helping us (four women travelers) plan our trip to Budapest. She arranged for Zsuzsa (Susan) to be our guide for two half days. I wish I had been taking notes, but even without all I've forgotten I know so much more about Budapest and it's history than I ever expected to. Zsuzsa was wonderful. We all loved her. After our two mornings with her we felt so at home in the city that we were able to really enjoy exploring in more depth on our own for the remainder of our trip. Andrea runs a great service. Take advantage of it if you can.

“you should have a sixth star for Andrea”
Reviewed December 3, 2013

We took a Viking River cruise November 2013. We wanted a tour of Budapest with a Jewish emphasis, particularly one that would largely focus on the quintessential Christian Holocaust hero Raoul Wallenberg, who saved 100,000 of Budapest's Jews, from certain death by the Nazis. We found Andrea Maccay through Trip Advisor. She met us at the ship and took us on a tour that requires a sixth star on your rating scale! She uses a driver so we were able to be dropped off right at each site. Andrea went to a lot of trouble to make our tour smooth, informative, and meaningful.. She, herself, was very knowledgeable, so pleasant, and very much "on the same page" as we were. Before the tour had even begun, thanks to Andrea's "historical tip," we made a point of stopping to see -- and, personally pay our respects, at a bronze? memorial of shoes that -- close to our ship -- were lined up on the bank of the Danube, in memory of those Jews who were shot and thrown into the river there, after being told to take off their shoes. (Actually, Raoul Wallenberg and others whom he brought to the river bank dove into the icy waters to save 50 lives, at least once -- knowing that the Hungarian Arrow Cross (similar to the Nazis) would tie three Jews together, shoot only one, and throw the human bundle into the river to drown (saving bullets.) This was a very poignant site.
Andrea also showed us some of the highlights of Budapest and never seemed rushed and always well-paced and reassuring, though we had limited time. We even stopped for a yummy snack (that's the only food break we wanted). She was the consummate professional!

“Andrea & Janos Makkay are the BEST Budapest guides”
Reviewed November 17, 2013

We had the pleasure of engaging Andrea Makkay and her brother Janos this Nov when we were in Budapest. They're EXCELLENT guides. They're attentive, knowledgeable, patient, fun to be with, and extremely helpful.

One of our friends forgotten his luggage when we disembarked from the cruise ship, and realized it after we checked into our hotel - 4 hours later. Fortunately, Andrea was with us, and helped us to retrieve the bag! Thank you Andrea for your quick action and saved the remainder of our holidays.

We had Janos, Andrea's brother the following day. He took us to the Central market hall and introduced us to the Hungarian food culture there. If we had been there on our own, we wouldn't have the pleasure to sample great Hungarian food, like langos etc. Janos is funny, super patient, very helpful too. He's super fun to be with.

We'd recommend to those who are going to Budapest to engage Andrea and Janos' services. You'd definately see more, experience more and have a great memorable trip. Trust me, I've been to Budapest 10 years ago, and I learn more and see more of Budapest with the Makkay siblings.

Thank you Andrea and Janos for showing us a great time.
