“4* hotel, at a push, but you pay for what you get!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

Well, where do I start. The hotel is adequately beautiful, modern, and generally clean. But these are the only positives. First, the noise was abhorrent. The walls are paper thin and we were woken up constantly during the night by revellers coming back from partying and in the early morning by people checking out. Ensure your room isn't by the lift. Also, the air conditioning was immensely underwhelming and loud. After 2 hours on full we had to switch off as we couldn't sleep and even with the window open it was boiling. Secondly, the room is very basic. No coffee nor toiletries are provided and the TV channels are very basic, not enough selection for English speaking guests. Additionally, only go here with your other half. There is only a glass screen protecting the bedroom to the bathroom - I don't want to hear or see what my friend gets up to in the bathroom! Finally, I found the staff useless, unfriendly and their English wasn't up to my standard as a frequent traveller. Essentially, a dreadful stay in quite nice surroundings, albeit in a seemingly dodgy neighbourhood far from the centre.

great small hotel staff extremely helpful. the area is a bit run down but we were very pleased with the hotel . we were eight women not one had anything bad to say about the hotel. We would stay there again. We were warned not to stop a taxi on the street but we hail two next to a taxi rank and we were riped off and taxi driver got very aggressive when we questioned this . the staff in the hotel told us to go in to a restaurent or a hotel and they would ring one for us .Other then that Budapest is a beautiful city and the rest of the taxi drivers were great help .

This is part of a continuing series of my impressions and experiences staying at various hotels and resorts while traveling to attend concerts worldwide. This stay was during my extension trip throughout Eastern Europe and London in May and June 2013. This review is for the ...

Property: Royal Park Boutique Hotel
Location: Budapest, Hungary

Booking Source: Orbitz
Overall Rating: 3/5 [Note: Score is totally subjective based on price, location, and comparison to "like" properties within same area and price range]

This was my first visit to Budapest, and when I booked this property, I thought I would be arriving via train, so looked for a hotel near (i.e. walking distance) the train station. As it ended up, I rented a car so drove in myself. But, as such, I got the sense that this wasn't the nicest neighborhood in which to stay, based on my observations driving in and subsequently walking around for several hours.

Coming in via GPS was confusing, as the street on which the hotel is located is blocked on one end with concrete barricades, so I had to figure out on the fly how to navigate around... to further complicate things, once finding the other (open) end of the street, it appears to be one-way coming at you, and there is barely one lane to navigate down, with the possibility of getting stuck with no where to turn around. There is no valet, so you are pretty much on your own figuring out where you can park long enough to check in. There was an open spot in front of the hotel once I finally made my way down the street.

If you have a car, they do not have their own parking but have arrangements with a dirt lot a few blocks away - there is someone living in a trailer on site who you have to work with to get a spot and have him sign the hotel paperwork.

This is just my opinion, but I will say straight out that I would not recommend this property unless you are a man traveling with other men or alone - it did not feel safe for females and/or children. There seems to be a fairly open sex trade in the area (some women even have billboards of their images outside of their apartments as advertisements just a block away), and there are a lot of sketchy men walking around at all times approaching women.

The hotel and room itself was nice enough on the inside, and what you might expect for a boutique European hotel, with a smallish room and fairly modern amenities.

The bed wasn't particularly comfortable, but that is pretty standard in Europe. However, the room was pretty large by those same standards. There was also ample room for storage.

On side is also a bar and restaurant, though I did not have time to use any of these features.

The staff was quite nice and professional.

Overall, if I were to return to Budapest, I would try a different property, but this might fit your needs if you need to be close to the train station and are comfortable with the area.

The hotel is very to the Keleti train station, so it is very conveniente for anyone travelling by train. There's also a metro station around 500 meters from the hotel that will get you to the city center, or you can take a tram to go to Buda. Most people will find the hotel too distant from the downtown area to go by foot.
The hotel itself is modern and well decorated. The rooms are clean and spacious enough.
The staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast is ok. Free Wi-fi. Few non-domestic TV channels.
I recommend this hotel for anyone coming to Budpest by train and looking for a very good price-quality ratio.
If you need to go to the airport, I highly recomend the shuttle service that will get you there fast and cheaply.

Perfect spot for a city weekend trip with friends...close to the shopping, food and thermal spas! We walked everywhere from the hotel...20 minutes to the spas and 25 to the city center. Definately no need to spend money on transportation either.

If you NEED to be by the train station because of a late arrival or early morning departure then this hotel is very convenient. If visiting Budapest then any hotel by the train station is far from the main tourist attractions. It's a good 30 minute walk to the Danube and all the main tourist attractions, through dirty and seedy parts of Budapest. There's major infrastructure construction going on around the main train station (has been ongoing since my last time here in 2007 and nothing has changed) so even walking around the train station is a major inconvenience. All the surrounding side streets (including street where hotel is located) are dirty, seedy and rundown. The positive aspects of the hotel are some of the personnel, wifi and the airconditioning. Rooms are small and breakfast is adequate. Budapest is a great city but I would definitely choose a hotel that's closer to all the main attractions the next time. Consider something on the Buda side of the river ... quieter and less expensive than the Pest side.

Room Tip: If you choose this hotel, ask for a courtyard facing room.

The reception staff were very helpful and friendly with good English.
The room was small but clean and modern however the dividing wall to the bathroom was glass which a) caused my partner and I to wake each other when using the bathroom during the night due to the light and b) lacked privacy (not a problem for a couple however if sharing with family or friends could be an issue).
Housekeeping was poor; teacups not cleared from the room, wet towels not replaced, door-knocking before 8am, staff entering our 'cleaned' room in the afternoon whilst we were napping and staff shouting in the corridor and waking us up.
Location was ok, handily positioned by the main train station. But a stretch from the main Budapest sights. However it was close to city park which was a great place to spend time.
Breakfast was poor quality and there was a shortage of tables.
Overall, it served its purpose bit felt budget.
