“Simply the best wine tasting place in Budapest”

The most amazing place, atmosphere and people, which I have ever seen during wine tasting.

However, do not drive a car to this place! Too expensive parking! >?20 if you stay more then one hour.

“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2014

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our wine tasting session at Faust. Our host, Gabor and his wife Barbara, were fantastic. Gabor helped us understand the wine regions of Hungary, answered our questions about the wines and winemakers, and suggested food pairings with many of the wines we tried. The wine cellar is in what was once the cellar of a monastery on Budapest’s Castle Hill. Great ambiance.

We sampled 9 different wines, including whites, roses, reds, and a dessert wine – all good quality. We also ordered two cheese plates. Water and bread were included with the tasting. Total cost was 16,100 HUF ($71 or 51 Euro). The cellar is fairly small – only about 24 seats – so we would suggest making reservations if you’re planning to be there in the evening. Also, if you would like a full meal (not just bread and cheese) with your tasting, you’ll need to arrange this one day ahead.

If you’re looking for a place to taste wines, Faust is a superior choice to the House of Hungarian Wines (across the street – see separate review).

“Unforgettable experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 3, 2014

We spent most pleasant three hours in the cellar during our stay in Budapest (03.04.2014). We opted for the "Curiosities of Hungary" menu; and the whole process of tasting exceeded our expectations. The wines were selected with great attention and understanding (we liked white section the most!) and the host was very friendly and nice.

“Best in Budapest”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2014 via mobile

Superb experience for my partner and I. The owner Ferenc is so enthusiastic about Hungarian wines, and the taste selection are all interesting and well chosen. We ended up taking 3 bottles home! A must visit, best experience we had in Budapest. Thanks again. :)

“A must while in Budapest”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2014

We spent our last evening in Budapest with Gabor and Barbara, and we couldn't have enjoyed it more. The owners are friendly and knowledgeable, and the wines were all delicious. Sadly, the typical experience of Hungarian wine here in the US is syrupy-sweet Tokaji, but Hungary has so much more to offer. Though the Hilton overhead is a blight on Castle Hill, these wine cellars will make you forget all of that; a beautiful environment for a wine tasting.
