“Reserve a table and prepare to be spoilt”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

We had a really great Friday evening here. We chose the Premium menu (roughly £60) and reserved a few days ahead (which I would recommend). The venue is very small with only a few tables and tends to last around 3 hours. The selection of wines is top quality, broad and local Hungarian wines. Our host was brilliant - he spent loads of time explaining where the wines were from, the families that run those vineyards. We had a meal with our and lots of local cheese to accompany the wine.

“An amazing experience”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

My partner and I went to a wine tasting here (we did the Hungarian wine tasting), and we thought it was amazing. The people running it were knowledgeable and friendly, and the whole experience left us in awe. One of my favorite experiences in Budapest.

“Wine Tasting in Budapest”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

A highlight of our last trip to Budapest was a wine tasting at the Faust Wine Cellar underneath (!) the Hilton hotel on the Buda side. There isn't a web page but there is information here...

You enter the Hilton and go into the bar to the left to find signs pointing out the way to the Cellar. Be sure to pause to look at the views back over the river to the Pest side from the bar. You then descend several set of steps to the Cellar where you can choose the type of tasting you want to do; a mix of wine, all reds, all whites, six or nine wines, even palinka. We chose a sampling of six reds with the option of adding one other. This was lucky since our favorite turned out to be the extra red and we bought two bottles to take away.

The husband and wife couple who run the Cellar are very helpful and solicitous, taking the time to answer questions and describe the grapes and the region involved with each wine. We liked to sample a red wine then ask what foods would go with it. We had made reservations for our tasting which you should definitely do during the tourist season, and you can go down to the Cellar and just taste wine on your own without doing an official tasting if there is room. Tables for the wine tasting are limited.

I wanted to list out the wines we had as an example for wine afficionados and to give an idea of what is available...

Raspi Winery - 2011 Rose, kekfrankos
Janos Nemeth - 2011 Kadarka
Raspi - 2009 kekfrankos (red)
Ferenc Toth - 2008 Bikaver
Tamas & Zsolt Gere - 2000 blend (cabernet franc, cabernet sauvingon, merlot)
Hetenji Winery - 2006 fortified red

The two we liked the best were the Raspi 2009 and the Gere 2000.

The Faust Wine Cellar is a great way to spend an hour or so learning about and enjoying Hungarian wine.

“Will go down as one of the most memorable experiences!”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

Every last detail of this experience will be remembered for years to come! I traveled to Budapest with a group of 5 other people and we decided to spend a night a Faust wine cellar for dinner and wine tasting. From the moment we booked the staff was very helpful with recommendations for dinner and wine parings. We all went with the chicken and dumplings and with this meal choice we had mostly white wines. The atmosphere was so comfortable and delightful! Wool blankets on the chairs and dim lights were just a few items that made this experience more comfortable for me. The food was some of best I have ever had throughout my travels in Europe. Such a simple dish the chicken and dumplings but prepared with great pride and knowledge! We tasted around 10 wines and they were all impeccable! Our host was fantastic and on top of every little element of our tasting. This meal completely exceeded all our expectations and I would highly recommend Faust Wine Cellar for a romantic dinner or a small group dinner.

“Raise a glass to Faust!”
Reviewed January 20, 2013 via mobile

If you enjoy wine and are looking for a memorable.experience then you can't go far wrong with Faust. It is a tasting venue in a stunning wine cellar under Castle Hill (which you get to through the Hilton). The staff were welcoming, humerous, knowledgable and spoke excellent English. We tried the short menu, for which we got to taste two red wines, two white, a sweet white and a callback on anything we liked. We also got some tasty cheese scones as part of the package. The menu is based on Hungarian wines only, so you get a real sense of what the region has to offer. Its cost around £14, which seemed about right given the amount of time we spent, the level of attention we recieved from the somelier and how much wine we had.
