Decided to go here on our last night in Budapest. The setting and restaurant was excellent. Looked like a top end restaurant in the UK.

The food was very good well presented and tasty. pretty large portions but not ridiculous.

had 3 courses 2 medium glasses of wine and 1 large beer and the total came to about £32 including service which is excellent value.

only negative was that the waiter was a little pushy in trying to get me to order the more expensive wines and they had run out of 2 other deserts. the ones they had were nice but the weakest part of the meal.

would definitely eat there again.

Great quality food at a very reasonable price... what a find! All the food was excellent, especially the goulash (I could have had a bath in it if I could), its a little tucked away, but well worth the hunt. Staff were very pleasant, and the decor and lighting is relaxing and comfortable. Many thanks for such memorable meals :)
Note: they do close their kitchens early on the evening so book earlier rather than later.

I have lived in Budapest for many years but haven't been to this restaurant in its current form. I must say I was quite impressed.

The restaurant seems to be a magnet for tourists who all somehow seem to find it, despite it being tucked away. (I heard very little Hungarian being spoken on the night we were there). It must be in every tourist guide as a treasure worth seeking out. It seems to be that popular that I'm pretty sure we would not have secured a table without a booking.

Three of us each had starters, mains, coffees, a bottle of wine and other drinks for under €80 in total (including the tip which is automatically incorporated into the bill). The fare has a Hungarian bias and the portions, which are not small, are of good to high quality. I was very positively surprised by the size of the starters given the prices.

The service was pretty friendly and all meals arrived in timely fashion. The waiters were a bit sloppy with drink refills, clearing the tables etc., but that really was the only blemish.

This is not the place to turn to for a gourmet meal, but if you're looking for a good, hearty and inexpensive meal, this restaurant is worth turning to.

Tucked away behind the Astoria Hotel (and convenient for the Astoria tube station), Ruben has the appearance of a restaurant charging 2 or 3 times the prices it actually does....we were seated in a lovely upstairs balcony area and, even at 7pm on a Thursday night, the restaurant was already busy.
The menu is extensive - possibly overly? - we ordered traditional Hungarian food - a mixed starter ("a taste of Hungary"), Hortobagy - mince pancakes in a cream sauce and crispy duck leg with red cabbage and onion potatoes - all were uniformly good. 2 desserts and several beers later we were only £25 poorer for the experience. We had no problems (as detailed in other reviews) with the service. We thought the food better (and cheaper) than Hungarikum Bistro and Menza.
