“SMALL FAMILY RUN HOTEL IDEAL FOR METRO IN TO BUDAPEST”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

Having stayed at the Chesscom Hotel on numerous occasions now, it is ideally located for Kobana Kispet Metro and getting to Nepliget Bus Station for onward travel to Lake Balaton and the likes. It's a small hotel but it's friendly, clean and value for money.

Room Tip: If you are a poor sleeper then ask for a room at the back.

Chesscom is great budget accommodation. It was perfect for us as we had hired a van to explore Hungary, but did not want to take it into the middle of Budapest. Located 10 minutes drive from the airport, but also a quick 10 minute whizz into Budapest central.on the M3 Metro. It is central to everything, with a big Tesco/mall directly across the road if you need supplies. Rooms are basic and a bit small, but clean and tidy and excellent value for money. Great to have breakfast available and with lots of variety, even for a gluten intolerant traveller. The staff at Chesscom were extemely helpful and could not do enough to assist us with our trip. Thanks so much to everyone there!

Good location if you have a late incoming flight or early outgoing flight as a bit out of the way otherwise. That said, easily connects with central Budapest as at end of the M3 Metro line so if you are on a budget you can stay at Chesscom and whizz in on the Metro rather than find 'cheap' accommodation in central Budapest.

Room was better than expected for the budget price with A/C and full TV channels. Some towels were a bit dated but very minor quibble and you take it into account with the price.

Staff were lovely and friendly with warm welcoming smiles (do say hello to them and try to greet them in their native Hungarian).

Breakfast was well maintained and staff attentive to make sure everything was available.

Would definitely recommend for transits.

This was a good place to stay, being at the end of the 200E bus line from the airport, and at the beginning of the metro line. When getting off the bus (last stop), go through the mall. Veer diagonally to the left. We had trouble seeing the hotel, as the sign is up high and was partially covered by trees. Look up to your left for a yellowish building. Locals in the mall were not sure of its location, which was odd, but don't let that put you off. This was a quite affordable place to stay in Budapest, conveniently located once you spot it. Its place near the end of the bus line and metro made it a great option for a one or two day stay in Budapest, but it would be fine for a few more days as well. Wi-Fi was fine and free. Shared bathroom with another room was no problem.

It is a good standard in the price range, but the rooms with the shared bathroom have no air conditioning inside them (they have a malfunctioning AC in hallway between the rooms) which makes the stay in the summer a nightmare. We only managed to sleep after opening the door, the windows and after the have traffic on the street calmed down around 2 am. We will not consider this hotel in the future.

The room we had was in a weird configuration, the beds were placed footboard to footboard.
The wifi signal was very weak in the room, it was best to go to the lobby and connect there.

The breakfast was good, although it was the same thing every day. There was a lot of variety, including scrambled or boiled eggs, bacon, yogurt, toast, tomatoes, peppers and coffee.

The hotel is accessible to downtown via the subway or train. It is about a 15 minute trip.

It is close to a couple of malls and there is a Tesco in the mall closest to the hotel.
