“Modern comfortable hotel close to Budapest”
Reviewed January 5, 2012

I stayed at this hotel this past July for one night and enjoyed it. Having stayed at really crappy hotels in Prague that claimed to be four stars, this one seemed like heaven. The design is modern yet comfortable, the colors are serene and the bathroom is very spacious. The restaurant has a top floor bar with a full view of the city. The breakfast has a nice variety. A bit far in terms of distance from the center of Budapest, but if you are on a business or travel trip with a group, then it shouldn't matter.

Hotel is OK, modern, and clean, but so are many Travelodge / Holiday Inn Express establishments, and they don't boast 4* ratings so I'm not sure how this place got one, as the in-room amenities are on a similar level.

Our trip started badly, with a 20 minute wait to check-in, not because of a long line (which would be more acceptable), but because the front desk staff were sorting out some sort of internal issue, printing out sheets etc, and wanted to finish it before seeing to us, the only customers waiting to check in. Poor.

Rooms are modern and clean if small. No specific soaps, shampoos or other bathroom amenities, just a big tub of 'all in one' soap in both sink and shower. No stocked mini-bar, just an empty fridge. My room's A/C refused to heat, so my room was absolutely freezing, and I spent a rather uncomfortable night sleeping on my two single beds.

Rather more annoying was the room service situation. Room service ends at 10pm, and we arrived just after, so nothing was available to be brought to our rooms (not even drinks). If you want drinks after 10pm, you need to walk up to the SkyBar on the 12th floor, queue up with the casual drinkers, then bring your drinks back down to your room to put in the fridge (but ensure you have your own bottle opener, as this isn't supplied upstairs or in the room). After 2am there's no option at all to get drinks or food in the hotel until 7am when breakfast starts.

So on a service basis, not really up-to-scratch compared to Sheratons and the like, but other than that it was OK, and the breakfast deserves a special mention - it was thoroughly excellent both in terms of selection and quality. Won't be back though.

The hotel is fine for spending a few days at the expo grounds. The food was ok, and was a bit better then expected. The rooms are nicely designed, very functional and seem to be renovated quite recently. There is a fridge to use as a minibar but there is nothing inside, which can be good or bad depending on your needs. For me, I arrived and needed a cold drink and had to call room service. There is very little around this area, about 1/2KM down the street was a Burger King and some other shops but it's all very industrial there so you are limited to the Hotel. A taxi can be arranged for a trip into town and shouldn't be too expensive. The spa is open from 7-10 which I assumed ment 7am to 10pm, but really it's only open from 7am-10am and 7pm to 10pm (which is a bit unusual) so I couldn't make use of the adequate looking sauna and steam room. Instead we sat and had beers in the upstairs Bar which had a great sunset view.

Very nice hotel, clean, staff is very friendly and always ready to help. It is not in the center, but that is fine by me because we came by car. Arena plaza is very near, Ikea also.
Breakfast is very nice, a lot of varieties.

A lovely 4 star. Newly renovated and right next to the horse racing track.
Can't fault the rooms or service. Big and comfy.
Downside - its a bit of a drag to the city centre and the metro is 10 minutes walk away. But considering the price its not a bad deal at all.
I am at the Formula One so the location is great and Team Lotus support staff and Mercedes are here as as well. Its very good for access to the Hungaroring and airport takes only 15 mins by cab.
For sightseeing you need to be prepared for the walk to metro or cab ride to the city but even that is not too bad.

We were travelling with a group and the hotel was pre-organised and knew that the location was not ideal for our needs. Unless you plan on going to an exhibition, I would not recommend this hotel for it's location. There is nothing in the local vicinity and is around a 15-20 minute taxi ride into the city centre.

Four of us arrived at the same time, all prepaid and booked in several weeks before but took over an hour to check us all in.

Breakfast was probably the most basic I have experienced for an alleged 4* hotel, little choice and not particularly tasty. It's served from 7.00am until 10.00am - make sure you have finished eating at exactly 10.00am or your plate with food still on it will be cleared! Don't expect the breakfast area to be overly clean, several times there was food debris from the evening before still on the floor.

The bar downstairs was poorly managed, they ran out of lager twice and didn't have any gin for 3 days, it was always difficult to find staff to serve you and the bar was often left unattended.

The sky bar was a nice place to have an evening drink but again the bar man gave the impression that he really didn't want to be there?

The only good points to mention are the rooms are a good size and very clean and the free wifi.
