Pros
- location: the pension is right under Fisherman's Bastions and the Old City, in a quiet residential area with gardens and historical buildings; just 5 mins walk from metro and bus stops and from the Danube
- room: we had a lovely double bedroom on the last floor, with windows in the roof overlooking the city, the view was absolutely stunning; the room and the bathroom (ensuite) were quite clean and the heating was perfect (-7°C outside, but nice and warm inside)
- breakfast: not a huge breakfast, but sufficient (bread, butter, jam, milk, tea, coffee, hungarian salami, cheese, chocolate) and served in a nice room overlooking the city
- prices: the price was extremely convenient, all the pros considered (we paid 20 euros per night in January)
- the owner Viktor is very welcoming and helpful

Cons
- to go back to the pension after a day of sightseeing, you usually have to go up several flights of stairs (the Buda area is spread on small hills); this wasn't a problem at all for us, but it might be for elderly people

I had a room in Budavar Pension for 6 days, because of a congress nearby. It was really a very nice place to be. Very friendly and warm staff. Clean rooms. From my room (upper floor, city site) I had a terrific view over Pest. (Not every room has this opportunity). Manager was very helpful, shared a lot of information and was friendly. Breakfast and breakfast room were OK.
Moreover, the pension is only 300m away from the castle.... terrific!
This is one the nicest pensions I've visited in the last years. I'm very pleased!!

Room Tip: Upper floor rooms on the Pest side have a nice view on the Parliament, the river and some beautiful...

I stayed at the Budavar for 2 nights while in Budapest after cycling the Danube Trail. What a treat...Quiet yet the perfect location providing easy access to see the city. Just beneath the castle and down the hill towards the Danube. Depending on your room, you viewed the castle, or sit on the balcony and view the Danube, Parliament Buildings, churches - remarkable.
Victor was very friendly , accommodating , helpful and very knowledgable. The perfect place to be after an amazing cycling trip

If you want to experience the most relaxing, peaceful, refreshing time as I had, you should visit this small, cozy Pension in Budapest:
You can enjoy a mesmerizing view of the Fisherman's Bastion, the Hungarian Parlament, the Danube, and the Castle from your room, your balcony, and from the dining room. When you step on the balcony you feel you could spend the whole night there just feeling/admiring the beautiful and peaceful atmosphere of the night of Buda-Pest.
I am so glad, because I also met the friendliest, most helping/charming host ever:
Victor magicly reads your mind, he is unbelievebly friendly, so you feel like you've always known him and his town.
They provide you with such a wonderful breakfast, in their intimate dining room, that only your mother could've prepared for you... great selection of tasty Hungarian specialties (cheese, salami and freshly baked pastries!), coffee, eggs, juices.
You have to see and experience this to believe it!
ENJOY!

As others have already stated it must be one of the best kept secrets in the travel industry. I stayed for 4 nights in mid-April and was very pleased with the accommodations and great service. Viktor was a gracious host always ready to answer my questions about Budapest.

Was also very pleased with the arrangement of a taxi to and from the
airport.

Hope to return next spring with the wife!!

Room Tip: The superior rooms are worth every bit of the extra cost!!
