“Good location, good value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013

Stayed here with my daughter for 4 nights city break Great location near to the Castle and Fishermans Bastion. The number 16 bus will take you to the Pest side of the city. Our room was neat and tidy with a lovely bathroom but unfortunately was downstairs with a view of the street at the back of the hotel and over the car park entrance/exit. We arrived late Monday evening so didn't use the restaurant but planned to eat there on the following 3 evenings. Unfortunately on the Tuesday and the Thursday the restaurant was closed to hotel residents as it was being used for private parties so we only ate there on one evening, having said that the meal was great. The hotel staff were efficient, friendly and helpful. The hotel is certainly good value for money and i would certainly recommend it.

This hotel is well placed near the Castle, you can reach it on the number 16 bus. The hotel greeted us late in the evening having arranged a car to collect us from our Krakow bus, there was a little trouble with the taxi finding us but this was eventually sorted by an extremely helpful receptionist.
The room was more than adequate and well provided, if I had any comments it would be that the breakfast needed a little more attention and more frequent replenishment of its provisions. Several of us were waiting quite a period and you no sooner found one thing provided when the next was empty. Just a small thing but it did detract from the excellent service provided in the other areas.
Transport around Budapest was very easy, a day ticket on the tram was approximately $6 Au and this covered all the public transport, we used the tram mainly as it showed you both areas of this fairytale city, both day and night.

I stayed 6 nights in Hotel Castle Garden from Dec. 14-20, 2012. It’s a small, but comfortable and friendly hotel. The staff is responsive to any requests. The location is essentially at the gate of the Castle district up high on the Buda side. The castle area is good to explore and can be used as the way to walk to the Danube and then over to the Pest side. The bar/restaurant has a nice Hungarian beer on tap. A feature in my room was a dedicated 24-hour outlet so you could leave your computer constantly on. I used the cable and the internet worked well. I would stay here again. It’s a fine deal and enjoyable stay.
A tip: make sure you buy your metro passes in advance because there are security people who check and fine you if you haven’t. It happened to me on my first trip and they weren’t sympathetic. I had an extra unused ticket on me but because I went over three stops on my punched ticket the fine was 8,000 Forint. A week’s pass was just 4,000. It wasn’t intentional and was avoidable if I had known. A lot of younger people speak good English, but the first several people I approached didn't and it led to the misunderstanding.

Room Tip: Sometimes the hotel may hire out the restaurant for private events. I guess there are two ownerships...

Dear…
Thank you very much for taking your time to share your experience with the travellers on the Tripadvisor. I am sorry for the issue happened with the public transportation. It is advisable to buy a daily/week pass/Budapest card if you are planning to travel within the city. Thank you for choosing us again and we truly hope you will return to us!

We stayed here in December 2012 doing a ROAD TRIP in Europe. We were 2 young couples.
The hotel is GREAT, nice clean interior design (me and my wife are both architects). Really nice details.
Staff was really nice (the girl at the reception was speaking like 5 languages).
Perfect LOCATION (near the fortress on top of the hill, with a great view).
The hotel Restaurant IS JUST PERFECT. Really good prices and THE FOOD WAS SUPERB! It's an Italian restaurant.
UNDERGROUND PARKING.
Free WiFi.
We had a great stay here.

Room Tip: - if you go there in winter turn on the heating first thing you get to the room. - Eat at the hotel...

The hotel is nicely located just below the Budapest Castle, and also good for reaching downtown quickly. Most noteworthy is the staff: very friendly and helpful, thank you again!
Also, being German, being greeted in my mother tongue instantly made me feel home and welcome.
The room was standard size with a relatively big bathroom. Modern equipped, with flawlessly working Internet - no complaints.

We arrived at the hotel on a Sunday evening and were welcomed by a lovely receptionist who processed us efficiently then spent a good few minutes pointing out the many sights of Budapest on a little map which he then gave to us, it was most helpful.
The room itself was clean, warm, welcoming and had a lovely view of the castle wall and quiet road outside. The hotel itself is situated on the Buda side and is a few minutes walk from a public transport hub of metro, bus and tram. Situated next to that is a giant shopping centre called Mammut which has many Hungarian shops, but also many English and German ones.
We walked to Budapest centre in about 25mins - it is a lovely walk downhill then along the river. Whilst the transport hub is so close to the hotel, the walk to the city centre is most enjoyable. Don't be put off by the fact this hotel isn't in the centre of Pest - the walk is definitely not a major effort and is a great way to see the city, also public transport is readily available from the afore mentioned hub and is really cheap.
After a two and a half hour walking tour followed by sightseeing then going to a Christmas market all on the first day, going back to the hotel was a luxury. The room's bathroom has a brilliant shower, lovely and hot, perfect for warming up after a day in sub zero temperatures.
All in all the hotel is welcoming, the rooms are clean and welcoming, and its location is great for getting involved in the city.

A lovely hotel located in the quiet location of the castle area on the Buda side of Budapest. The large room (Panorama Room) was secluded and nicely furnished with an enormous terrace overlooking the city. The young gentleman on the front desk was extremely polite and helpful as were the other staff. The breakfast was good.Admittedly it was the same most days but it was replenished at all times. The breakfast buffet manager was friendly and helpful. We ate one night in the adjacent restaurant and although the food was good (mainly Italian) the waiter was rather offhand and discourteous and when I asked for a glass of tap water he plonked a small glass of Luke warm tap water in front of me.The hotel is easy to get to as the public transport system in Budapest is amazing.I recommend buying a travel card. There is lots to do in Budapest. We visited the opera house twice in 5 days (buy tickets online the month before) .The spas are the great for relaxation at its best and the Buda hills are worth a visit if you have the time (chairlift, cog railway and a children's run steam railway).A great city and an excellent hotel.
