“A Romantic Hotel in Budapest”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2012

We spent four wonderful nights at the Gerloczy, and I really can not say enough about how much we love this charming hotel. It is just so cute from the outside but you step in the doors and you feel like you have stepped back in time with a lovely elegance throughout. I'm afraid our mouths were probably hanging open the whole time as we walked up the circular staircase and then came to our rooms with the huge wooden doors that must be at least nine feet tall. The rooms are large and beautiful.
We had booked early and requested the room with the balcony while our daughters had the room right next door. It was so much fun to sit outside while enjoying a glass of wine and listening to the murmur of people below. The balcony has a small table and two chairs but the staff brought up two more chairs for us. The breakfast was very, very good and we never went over our allotment. A couple of earlier reviews had complained about the waiters, while they were not overly friendly, they were very professional and we had no problems.
The location could not have been better. We walked to The Great Market, down to the waterfront, good resturants near by and even a grocery store across the way. With the subway just a couple of blocks away it was easy for us to jump on and go anywhere we wanted.
Staff service was excellent. My e-mails were answered right away, they looked up jazz clubs and printed off a map, arranged a taxi to pick us up for an 4:00 pm to take us out to the airport, answered any of our questions and were ready to give suggestions. English was spoken as well as I believe, many other languages.
This was our oldest daughter's first time to Europe. The Gerloczy has set a very high bar for the rest of her future trips. This was a wonderful place for the four of us (daughters were 21 & 25) but it would also be my top pick for a romantic trip for two.

We just come back from a 4 nights stay: we loved everything at Gerloczy's! The location is ultra convenient, quiet yet close to everything, especially the design streets and the former Jewish quarter, which has lots of bars and restaurants.

The beautiful building has a palace feeling and the golden staircase is just gorgeous.
Our room (n°3 on 2nd floor) was beautiful and comfortable, with a charming but functional bathroom (we had a walk-in oval shower). And we liked our breakfasts (we tasted almost everything, everything was yummy with may be one exception: the tasteless "french" toast).

The atmosphere is laid-back and I liked the fact they had a "regular" menu for New Year Eve: for example you could get a grilled fish and your wine at the same price as usual, and I like the fact they don't inflate the prices for NYE. I think this is fully representative of the consideration this hotel has for their customers, and it is uncommon enough considering the reasonable prices!

Room Tip: Room 3 on 2nd floor has a bathroom with walk-in shower and a balcony: this is the room you can see o...

We booked for several nights, and extended the stay. The staff is friendly and accomodating. The restaurant downstairs is amazing. Each room comes with a room copy of a local guide book that has some great insider information on Budapest. The closest metro stop is just a few minutes walk away. Other reviewers have already mentioned the heated bathroom floor, which is huge by any standard. The bed was comfortable, the room very large, the furnishings and decor are top notch, but oh, the staircase . . . If back in Budapest again, would absolutely stay there. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for 2 nights and loved it! The hotel is something very special & unique- amazing rooms, very very nice bathroom - it sooo different from what I had seen before! Very romantic! Location is very good for sightseeing and the breakfast really delicious!

Room Tip: We had room Nr 2 at third floor - I was told this is the most beautiful room!

On a quiet street near the river and large pedestrian malls, the Gerloczy is a delightful small hotel. Staff were helpful and attentive, providing an excellent guide to the city and advice as requested. The breakfast selection from the hotel menu was broad, allowing us to taste a variety of different options over three days, none of which came close to using our 12 euro 'allowance'. The spacious room with a heated bathroom floor! was very comfortable and had good wifi. We ate great fish dinners at the cafe itself -reasonably priced and very nicely served in a busy cafe with a harp player who liked jazz standards. Definitely a place to return to.

My husband and I spent our first anniversary in Budapest and stayed at Gerloczy for 4 days. Loved every little detail of the hotel. Our room was very nice and romantic, the roll top bath was so luxuirious as were the Lush toiletrries.
Would highly recommend the restaurant, food is delicious and the ambience very nice. Esp with the harp player over dinner.
The front of staff were extremly helpful. They got us tickets to the sold out opera show - Aida which was brilliant. And also helped us with taxi bookings and tickets to the Hot Baths. All in all a great stay and would highly recommend this place. Enjoy!

I stayed in this wonderful hotel last April and enjoyed every minute of my time there.
The magnificent historical building is renovated with great taste, the rooms are stunningly beautiful including the bathroom. What a treat! The traditional coffee house downstairs has a lovely atmosphere. I had dinner in Gerloczy every night outside under a majestic tree.
Its branches were like a dome over the tables. To sit there in the evening sampling the
delicious meals and being serenaded by a harpist, was pure magic. Beautiful ambiance.
What a wonderful place in the middle of Budapest, situated on the Pest side and surrounded
by pedestrian areas. Everything your heart desired was in walking distance.
Hotel Gerloczy enchanted me so much that I would always stay there if going back to
Budapest.
