The Danube Hotel is such an amazing place, where we had a great time!!! Clean and comfortable and also in a great location close to bars and restaurants in the Jewish quarter, it's right next to Great Synagogue.
Atmosphere is perfect, staff are very friendly and helpful in giving directions and making suggestions, and made us feel welcome in Budapest.
Also the price was good for what we had. It was a very enjoyable stay, we'll definitely come back.

This small guesthouse is located in the Jewish quarter a short walk from trams, buses and metro stations in Astoria and Deak ter. The building is old and has a lot of character but the rooms are modern and spotlessly clean. We arrived very late (thank you Ryanair) for which there was an extra charge, which we were not informed of until we came to pay at the end of our stay, although we were very late and Zoltan was very welcoming despite the late hour. Breakfast is in a nearby cafe and was pretty good. Zoltan and Bob are always on hand to check you are enjoying Budapest and gave us recommendations for restaurants and things to see, but we had done quite a bit of research and booking online so made our own way around. The hotel was very quiet and we all had 3 good nights' sleep. We all felt that the hotel was really good value and would recommend it to anyone going to Budapest. Our only issue was the way in which we were approached regarding a problem in one of the rooms. I understand that this is Zoltan and Bob's home, but felt that the accusatory manner in which we were spoken to was unnecessary. That, and that alone,is the reason for my rating. Aside from that momentary hiccup, the place was great.

The Danube Guesthouse is around 20-30 minutes from Budapest airport. A transfer by taxi cost around 7000 HUF (approximately £20).
The Danube Guesthouse is set in a classicly dated building with ornate entrance and quaint stairwell and lift inside. Okay it needs a lick of paint but we just felt that building oozed charm and as Zoltan (our excelent host) explained, the building is a listed property so all repairs and remedial work have to stay in keeping with the design.
The location is brilliant! We walked everywhere - even to Heroes Square (which took around 40 minutes each way). Zoltan and Bob have some great information upon arrival and their reccomendations over where to eat and visit - were impeccable. Spionoza and Menza were both just awesome!! The Bar Szimpla Kert is mind-blowing! It's the funkiest craziest place we've ever been to and we spent hours drinking, making new friends and exploring this unique bar. It's not classed as Budapests number 1 night bar for nothing. Do a little bit of research on what a "ruin bar" is and you'll have a great time.

Back the the Danube Guesthouse: Location - great. Rooms, superb. We have a very comfortable double room and there was everything we needed. We didn't spend anytime in the room other than to sleep and get changed but the shower was great, bed was comfy and decor, pleasing on the eye.
Zoltan & Bob are quite rightly proud of the Guesthouse and they leave you feeling that no request would be too much for them. Extremely knowledgeable of Budapest in general, they made us feel like friends rather than paying guests.
This really is a B&B which ticks all the boxes. Comfort, cleanliness and location. Great stay - Zoltan and Bob, we thank you :)

Room Tip: Room 2 was great but i suspect all rooms are as good.

Impeccably clean and well-located guesthouse, The entry feels like walking into the early 19th century (except for the lift). The bedrooms are very modern with great mattresses. Zolton and Bob are very helpful. Stunning historic synagogue to explore in the same block,

In Sept of 2011 we stayed 4 nights and this Sept. we returned for 5 nights. I can't imagine a better place to stay in Budapest than The Danube Guest House!!! Clean, comfortable, great location. Zoltan and Bob are exceptional hosts. Budapest is a wonderful city and hopefully we can return soon for even longer stay at The Danube Guest House
