We were late for dinner - 9pm - but still ordered the tasting menu (8 menu items + 3 complimentaries) and ended up at 12 midnight. Better to start at 7pm and have enough time to enjoy.
Food is excellent, a curious (but well thought out) mix at times giving us many new gastronomical experiences. Almost every dish perfectly put together.

“What a great foods!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

Went there for lunch. They only had 3 course meal menu for the lunch with wine pairing.
Nice selection of Hungarian wine, especially pinot noir like grape variety.
Really enjoyed the foods and wines!!
Want to try the dinner because I didn't have enough time to try the dinner here. Advance reservation seems to be required.

“As Good As It Gets”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

We celebrated our anniversary with the tastings menu and pairing wines last Thursday. Everything was just perfect - from the small greeting card they had for us on the table to the last sweet glass of dessert wine. Perfect service, beautiful plates glasses and cutlery, and of course devine food and high class wines.

We have been there for four lovely hours, enjoying the meal, the wines and the ambience.

The prices are expensive, espcially for Budapest, but you certainly get value for your HUF.

Onyx is well deserved for its Michelin star.

“Don't leave Budapest without eating at Onyx”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

Today my wife and I ate lunch at Onyx. This Michelin star restaurant is located just a block from the Kempinski where we were staying.

Outside, the restaurant appears a bit modest however once you step through the door your impression changes immediately. The space is elegant, luxurious, comfortable, with a nice mix of both traditional European and contemporary elements. There is a beautiful back-lit yellow onyx fireplace, which I assume was either the inspiration for the name or a nod by the designer to the restaurant's name.

In any case the interior design, as beautiful as it is, is upstaged by both the service and the food. The service is discrete, competent and appropriately friendly. Each component of each dish is identified for you as it is presented. This might seem a little over the top but as each dish appears as a painting on a brilliant white canvas knowing what you are looking at is in fact quite enjoyable and helpful.

Each of us chose a different dish from the three course lunch menu and so between us we we tasted 60% of the dishes. Every one was unique and delicious.

Perhaps the best proof of the Chef's talent is the fact that while my wife normally won't eat sushi, her appetizer which was several varieties of raw or marinated tuna vanished from her plate leaving it almost as spotless as when it came out if the dishwasher.

Aside from the great ambiance, wonderful service and amazing food the value for money is spectacular.

The restaurant closes Sunday and Monday so if you are in Budapest any other day Onyx is a must. I only wish we had been able to eat dinner there as well.
