“Incredibly moving exhibit”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

To hear the story - just heartbreaking. We only saw it briefly from the bus - wish we had more time to visit.

“Holocaust Memorial, Danube Promenade, Budapest”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

A fantastic and very unique memorial to both a specific event in Budapest's history, as well as a very poignant and moving image of the impact of the Holocaust as a whole. The shoes look almost real, and the flowers and candles scattered throughout the memorial give a real pang of how recent and perhaps still present this devestation was and still is in the minds of the people of Hungary. A beautiful and peaceful memorial.

“Very moving”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

Because of the construction near the parliament we reached it from the Chain Bridge side, just go down to the river and walk in the direction of the parliament, you can't miss it. The memorial is very poignant and touching, it brought tears to my eyes. There's a plaque in Hebrew and another one in English. The English one only says that it's a memorial to the Arrow Cross regime, while we all know that it's really a memorial to the Jewish victims of the Nazi regime. I found this very disappointing.

The 'Shoes on the Danube' is an excellent monument to those who lost their lives and something that should not be missed on a trip to Budapest

Make sure you read up or have access to wikipedia when you get there. There is no description on the monument other than the shoes.
