“Simple memorial but impactful”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

This memorial was one of the most impactful ones I have encountered in my life. Seeing the shoes on the floor, from adult shoes to children's shoes, was impactful, it made you think of what happened here. It is so important to read about these memorials before visiting them or at least read them as you are there. IMPORTANT ON HOW TO CROSS: this is a busy street. Be careful and before you cross, look for the opening of the rail so when you cross the street you don't have to fend for you life. This is key, if you can do this it is an easy cross. We took the stairs that are in front of the Poet's statue and we went right. There is a sign that says "Tourists stop". If you are not savvy crossing the street, then do stop, if you are careful then just remember: look for the opening, don't just cross the street!

“Very moving and worth the time to see it”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

We were on a river cruise and docked just past this monument, so it was easy to access. It was perhaps the most moving holocaust memorial I have seen. The shoes look as if someone literally stepped out of them and into the icy river. Chilling.

“Worth a look if you are nearby”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

The shoes are a very simple monument and worth seeing if you are in the area. They are a few minutes walk from Parliament and so if visiting there, it is worth going over to see the shoes and lovely views of the river.

“Sad Reality”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

The view is beautiful, the history is sad. Worth seeing to take artistic photos of the shoes with the river.

“Great memorial”

A beautiful sculpture of a disgusting act of war. Worth seeing, and definitely makes you appreciate all we have now.
