Something we felt we had to do, very moving, shame that the hungarian government have no plaque acknowledging their part in the murder of these holocaust victims

“Nice, but far out.”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

It was a lovely memorial, but it was hard to get to because there were constructions going on. This meant crossing vicariously a busy national speedway road! But there were good views and if coming from parliament, its worth a detour as its so close! But it would be nice if there was more information leading to the shoes and more information about them.

A very moving place in view of what happened here. A little difficult to get to if you are coming from the Parliament building.

“A must see!”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

It was incredibly moving to see the "shoes" on the Danube Promenade. The Shoes on the Danube is a memorial to the Budapest Jews who were shot by Arrow Cross militiamen between 1944 and 1945. We had heard about it and my husband really wanted to view this - and when we saw it we were just amazed... the memorial contains 60 pairs of iron shoes, forming a row along the Danube.

“Jewish Memorial”

Would not have found had I not previously researched Budapest. Very surreal to see the brass shoes along the Danube and realize what took place there.
