“For me the best base for staying in Budapest”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

The Royal Residence is colocated with the Grand Hotel Royal, which offers several fine dining restaurants and a nice spa.

The appartments are spacious, elegant and adequately furbished. The main point for me coming back there is the nice atmosphere of the residence (the hotel is a bit too posh for me), the in-house restaurant Bock Bistro (Bib gourmand), the spa and the location in the city center with the tram 4/6 going directly before the hotel, metro line 1 being 200m away.

Ideal for city trips with your family where you need a quiet and cozy home and be close to the center to have short travel time for sightseeing or shopping.

The place is clearly in the most expensive level of the hotels in Budapest, the apartments starting around 200 euro per night, I think it is still worth it, since here you get a 2 bedroom, 80 sqm flat with an equipped kitchen instead of a double-room.

Own parking house with 24 hour security guard presence is next to the apartments.

Book a ground-floor apartment (room 2xx) so you get kind of own garden and back in the air-shaft you can put the dryer.

There are very few minus points: the opening hours of the spa is very limited for children (11-16), which makes it practically impossible for child families to enjoy the swimming pool on the day of arrival and departure. Also, most of small kids actually sleep in this period.

The desks have glass plates as covers and they are not exactly precise in size so some of the corners are dangerous for kids.

There is no tumble dryer, so you have to use a normal dryer for your clothes.

The internet is free (nice), but it seems quite unnecessary that it is bandwidth limited and the "premium service" is offered for approx 15 euro/day.

Room Tip: Take one of the 2xx apartments.

My experience with this hotel in August 2012 was wonderful. We (self and two adult children) rented an apartment room at the Corinthia and it was lovely, comfortable and very reasonably priced. The maid service was impeccable, the rooms spacious and elegant, and the hotel lobby and shared spaces were a pleasure to behold. Moreover, there was often live music in the evenings in the lounge area. The pool was spectacular and a delight. We stayed at the Corinthia for 10 days and found it to be superbly located for exploring Budapest by foot and by the convenient public transportation available. Moreover, we found the hotel to be a delightful sanctuary from the urban life in the streets. My only complaint was that the charges for breakfast were so high we choose to buy things and make our own food. We had a small and nicely equipped kitchen so this was actually part of our fun. Hungarian pastries are excellent!

Room Tip: We loved the apartments.

To make in easy to highlight the relevant aspects of the hotel here is a list, which is not ranked:

Service - Excellent: Everybody was very attentive and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.

Checking in - Excellent. Quick and welcoming

Rooms - Excellent (Junior Suite) - like an executive apartment!

Public Areas - Excellent: Spacious and classy

History - It has plenty and there is a tour

Spa - Very Good: Would have been excellent because it looks great but the pool was too cold for our liking.

Dining - Average. A bit of a let down when everything else was so good. We ate in both the Rickshaw and the main dining area in the atrium and whilst the food was OK it lacked the Wow! factor we were hoping for. We did eat in the 4 Seasons to compare and this was the real quality dining experience we were looking for.

Executive Lounge: Very Good: A little limited on what was on offer for lunch but the evening canapés were nice. Otherwise this is a nice place to chill out or work or relax. Sparking wine is available along with other beverages.

Location: OK: Not a strength if you really want to be nearer the river which is a decent, but very pleasant walk of about 15/20 mins. There are some interesting premises near by of an erotic nature but this is not a seedy area by any means and a road with luxury end designer shops is about 5 minutes walk away. There are also lots of cafes and dining options close by.

In summary, a really lovely hotel with great service that we would have rated as excellent had our dining experience been better.

We stayed at the Corinthia Hotel in Budapest in March 2013 and we had a great visit. This is a beautiful, grand hotel in the heart of Budapest. It feels brand new even though the original hotel is about 100 years old. The soaring lobby and big ballroom are reminders of the grand past. But the rooms, restaurants, elevators , etc are brand new. You get the Best of both (old time charm and modern convenience) ! We had a two bedroom APARTMENT and it was GREAT ! We are a family of four adults so we really liked the living space; and the Apartment was cheaper than getting Two rooms. Breakfast was wonderful, concierge was very helpful, staff was great. I have only good things to say about Corinthia hotel !

Do you like a hotel room where the heating goes on and off randomly? Do you like to get up in the morning to find out that you have no hot water? Do you like towels missing because the laundry cannot keep up with the demand? If yes, go to this hotel, if no, stay away! The hotel is big and beautiful (albeit a bit global-non-emotional with the classical earth tones you find in so many hotels) and the staff is friendly, but the place has no "soul". It is too big to be an intimate upscale hotel and it seems to host a lot of conferences/events which make it unpersonal and busy. The best about this place is the Bock Bisztro which is among the best eateries in Budapest. From my personal experience, I would rate the Boscolo next door higher than this hotel.

I stayed in this hotel on several occasion. I was fully-satisfied. The breakfast was more than impressive. Staff very helpful and service oriented. One room we were given had some bad smell (as if unaired for some time) and the hotel was fully booked and could not give us another room, but as a gesture they provided a bottle of wine instead, showing that management attends to their guests. The location is ideally set, close to most attractions. I would definetly recommend this place for visitors.
