I second the last review and don't want to repeat what they said. However, just to add that this was a great way to experience staying in Budapest amongst the courtyard and apartments that make up the beauty of the city. One felt that they were living amongst the "people" rather than just visiting at a hotel. Additionally, the staff couldn't have been friendlier and extremely helpful. The complimentary bottle of wine is a generous touch.

Great value for money. I can't really give this place less than a really good rating as it's in such a great location and is so reasonably priced. It's tricky to find the entrance the first time we arrived, as we expected a door on the main street where in fact it's through an archway, in a courtyard and up a couple of floors. The staff were very nice, although I left some euros to pay the room tax on the dressing table on our second day and they disappeared - I was told the cleaner would have 'assumed it was a tip' which I'd accept if we'd checked out but we still had another night to stay. The rooms are huge, clean and fairly traditional. As with staying centrally in most big cities, it's quite noisy from the street but I wouldn't let that put you off. A few of tips for Budapest - although you'll find yourself in the main square, you're much better going to the local restaurants and bars in the streets behind the hotel - a huge selection and some of the coolest bars I've ever been to. Second tip - don't change your money in the train station. We found the change shop on the same street as the hotel had the best rate. Also, if you go to one of the thermal baths you get a choice whether you want to use the swimming pool, in addition to the baths. We did but you need a shower cap to swim in the pool which we didn't have, so it was a waste of money paying to access the pool and not use it. Lastly - if you have enough time, go to Bratislava. Only 15 euros return for the train, takes one hour. Head into the historic centre and to the castle, but like most main cities, watch out for the pickpockets!

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room. We did but it wasn't possible.

The hotel is perfectly located in the centre of the city, the rooms are clean and modern.
Although the rooms facing the main road are quite noisy, the wonderfully kind staff gave us on request a quiet room, looked onto the courtyard. It was really nice, we slept like a baby :)
They are there for 24 hours always ready to give any advice and help.
The menu chocie for breakfast is reasonable and delicious.
Hard to find but you will find useful signs for directions!

I would love to be able to give this hotel 5 stars, as it tries so hard and the staff are lovely - friendly, helpful and obliging. However, our sleep quality for the 3 nights we were in Budapest was appalling hence the 3 star review. We were in room 1, which was not only next to Reception but also faced onto one of the busiest streets in Budapest. There was practically no soundproofing between Reception and our room and the double glazing must have been ancient! We probably managed to grab at most 2-3 hours sleep each night - it was mostly street noise - traffic, trams and many many LOUD sirens. But also the Reception phone rang intermittently and there was lots of noise from guests arriving late. Further to this the beds and pillows were exceptionally uncomfortable (beds were also very creaky)! However, maybe during the week it would be quieter (less sirens?) and perhaps if you take ear plugs it wouldn't be so bad. Definitely ask for a room that is not room 1 or 2 (as these are right by Reception).

But the good stuff.....
- complimentary bottle of wine on arrival - excellent!
- complimentary tea, coffee, sweets and biscuits in Reception 24/7
- excellent staff - professional and helpful
- location - right next to Astoria Metro and tram stop (5 min walk from the main square, 10 min walk from the river)
- cleanliness - very clean
- breakfast (not available in the hotel but they give you vouchers for Bali cafe over the street) - choice of omelette, cereal and yoghurt or cold meats/cheese with bread - very freshly prepared and plenty of it and the staff were very nice!

Rooms were basic (no fridge, no bath) but there was a decent hairdryer and plenty of plugs for appliances.

Be aware that the hotel is VERY difficult to find! We arrived to the Astoria Metro after taking the underground from Keleti trainstation (which took literally 5 mins) but then spent an hour wandering the streets with suitcases trying to find the hotel. It's not precisely where it claims to be on Google maps..... the location is Karoly Korut and it's number 3A..... however, I had directions to 3B (a bank) and 3C (a bookshop called Alexandria).... 3A was actually on the next block to the right of the synagogue (not to the left like 3A/B are) - very confusing! We asked in the bookshop and they didn't know either but eventually was spotted a small brass plaque next to a dingy alley (through some heavy metal gates) labelled Budapest City Central. From the outside, it looks horrendous but inside it is fine! I think they perhaps need more visible signage!

Overall, the hotel is great value for money - got to be one of the cheapest in that area. But in retrospect, I think I would have spent a bit more money on a hotel that is likely to be less noisy, as the sleep quality was just too poor. Take earplugs.

Room Tip: Not room 1 or 2 as these are next to Reception and can be quite noisy

Price low, excellent quality, very friendly staff!
The room are large and comfortable, the hotel is in a excellent position, in the city center, and at 100mt from the underground.
Very good experience!
