“Good hotel - well worth a visit”
Reviewed July 11, 2010

We had three nights in this hotel at a very hot time of year.

The hotel is lovely, and definitely has the most character of the hotels in Fured we looked at. Reception were polite and helpful (both in Hungarian and English), and immediately brought extra pillows to the room on request.

Our room was quite small, but not tiny - so quite functional for three nights. The room itself was a little dated, but was well presented and charming.

Breakfast was delicious, with lots of fresh food and friendly service.

Being a couple of minutes to the waterfront means it is a bit quieter than most of the other hotels and therefore we had no issue with mozzies.

One drawback was the lack of aircon - there was a portable unit put in our room but it wasn't very effective, so we had to open the balcony doors.

Overall this is a great hotel with a bit of character (and a fantastic wine bar opposite!) and well worth considering.

We spent there 3 nights, the location is great, walking to the beach after breakfast.
Also the dinner is great. But the room was dusty, and we all got allergy in the end.

Again, we chose the hotel straight on place without previous reservation, because i liked the experiors- front side in white with something like roman pillars leading to the door, then you have to pass the restaurant and you`ll end up in a tiny reception desk.
Hotel is well located, far enough from the main "balaton boulevard", so you won`t hear all those party noises and loud music if you decide to sleep. Eating area is spacious and comfortable, breakfast good. I didn`t like the room much- instead air condition, there was this funky fan from PVC (which didn`t work properly anyway, as far as i can remeber). Furniture was rather ugly, claret coloured and had seen better ages, but the hotel atmosphere was charming, with old pictures hanging on the walls and small balconies where you can sit and relax. i don`t know how the other hotels in Balatonfured look like, but what i`ve seen from the car window wasn`t better at all (most of them looked like a communist era memorials). Blaha lujza is maybe not the best choice, but it`s not the worst for sure.
PS. beware with the parking. it`s not easy to park with bigger car in the hotel parking lot, and there was not enough space as well.

This hotel could be great but .... I visited in mid-Oct and was the only guest. My poorly lit room was gloomy but perfectly adequately sized and equipped albeit fairly basic. My shower room was fine apart from the shower column being broken so ideal for someone who was under 4 feet high. However I never got to experience the bed as having gone out to supper and returned at 8.45 I found myself locked out, no-one in the hotel to let me in and the phone off the hook. I spent the night in the car.

Having travelled throughout Hungary (I am a travel writer) I believe that this hotel is not good value and is not in keeping with the rest of this amazing town. There are, I am sure, much better value places around, particularly out of season, and ones that do not lock their guests out for the entire night! However I can vouch that the car park is well illuminated - all night.

We stayed for 3 nights in this hotel in what was very much the off season at Lake Balatan.

The hotel is quite lovely, very low key and had a family run feel. The place was spotless and the hotel room clean, comfortable and a decent size.

The hotel staff were very helpful, English is very minimal with German preferred by non-Hungarian speakers; but our guidebook Hungarian and sign language worked fine!

Its location is ideal for the waterfront siteseeing and only 15 minutes walk from the train station and from the town center.

We ate in the restaraunt once and enjoyed our meal.

We paid £45 per night for 2 people B&B. Breakfast was great and of continental style offering a range of cereals, breads, cheese/cold meat, jams, scrambled eggs and suasages and a variety of hot and cold drinks.

Overall its a perfectly decent hotel offering very good value for money in a pleasant environment; we'd use it again if revisitng the area.

The small hotel is the villa - largely gutted, though some nice old pictures on walls and a handsome dining room - owned by the 19th century actress and Hungarian heroine.

We had a double room but it was so tiny we could barely move around the bed. Others have had similar experience at this hotel. Super location just above the lake and promenade, walking inland towards the "old" town you do so through lovely horse chestnut-lined streets. At the time we went the pavements were covered with fallen leaves and conkers.

Friendy and polite staff who spoke little English but there is ample tourist information in the town. Perfectly decent breakfast. We did not eat there in the evenings. Many very good restaurants in the area with lovely lake views. No air conditioning - this would be a problem in the summer, particularly in a small stuffy room.

Would not return, but the spa - Balatonfured- is the ideal location for the north Balaton shore. Anyway,we came back from our first trip to this most beautiful of lakes with - a house! so won't need to.
