“Super-clean Portoroz.”
Reviewed June 7, 2014

My wife and I, after visiting Pisa and Florence, IT, drove to Portoroz, Slovenia and stayed several days at the Hotel Marko. We were greeted by a young man who's English was as impeccable as his manners. We knew right away that this would be a nice place to stay and we weren't disappointed. The underground garage was a bonus as I had borrowed an Austrian colleague's Jaguar and really didn't want to leave it on the street. Nice restaurant, clean room and an excellent location about a block away from the tram that takes you to the Old Town. This hotel doesn't have a casino so if you go for the gambling, better stay next door. Otherwise, highly recommended.

Room Tip: Try for a room that faces the Adriatic.

Thought this is an older building, it is very clean and well maintained, The breakfast is just wonderful with so much to choose from. If you don't find what you like, you are too hard to please. We had to get 2 rooms b/c we have 3 older children but we were right next to each other and both got balconies which was such a treat. There is nothing that is not within walking distance to the hotel but it is not so close that you can't enjoy a quiet evening on the lanai.

Room Tip: If you go off season, you should not need to splurge on the garage parking. there is ample parking o...

We only stayed here one night, but the impression was very good.
Already from outside, this hotel looks classy, as it is a bit older building with nice balconies.
We had sea-view room in 2nd floor and it was really nice in the morning, looking and listening to the sea.
Receptionists were all very helpful, breakfast had a limited but sufficient variety.
There is a garage behind the hotel, but the entrance (steep curve) might be a bit tricky for unexperienced drivers.
Overall - very good price/performance ratio!

Room Tip: I don't know if there is a price difference depending on the view, but sea view is really nice a...

I visited this hotel only for the restaurant, I did not stay for the overnight.
I was looking for a restaurant along the main street in Portoroz and I wanted to try eating fish.
Restaurant looks clean and elegant , food was very good and especially fish .
The waiter was so gentle and friendly. Price was good .
I recommed this place.

We were very pleased with the Hotel Marko and wished we could have stayed longer. The front of the hotel is lovely and has a well-manicured garden overlooking the sea that would be perfect for relaxing in during the warm summer months. We payed extra for the sea-view room, and were surprised to see the large balcony (with walls on both sides for privacy from your neighbors). The rooms itself had a comfortable queen-size bed, a couch, and plenty of luggage storage space so you won't be tripping over anything. The TV was a newer LCD and had a wide variety of channels (a few English, and not the standard CNN/BBC World!). Parking was cheap at only 7 EUR/night. We didn't have any issues getting our car in and out, and we have a mid-sized sedan. The rooms are quiet and we slept rather well. Our only issue was that the room was very warm and kind of stuffy, so we just left the door to the balcony open. The A/C in the room may work better in the summer season, so it may not be an issue then.
We chose to eat dinner in the hotel restaurant, which was completely empty (it was December, so not a big surprise). My husband's risotto was very good, and my scallops were cooked perfectly. One thing we noticed is that the food was under-salted, but a wooden jar of salt from the Piran flats was placed on the tables for our use, so it may have been intentional. We both got squid for our mains, mine stuffed with gorgonzola and rucola and his simply grilled. The squid was a little overcooked, which just made it more chewy, but had a very good flavor. Pricing for dinner was standard for the area. The breakfast the next morning had a large variety of hot and cold dishes and was kept well-stocked.
We would definitely return to the Hotel Marko - it has a great location and is very reasonably priced when compared to the other hotels in the area.

Room Tip: Sea-view rooms have a lovely view, but face the main road, so ask for a room at the back if you are...

We spent nearly a week with my husband in Hotel Marko. Hotel is quiet and very nice. Location is perfect. The restaurant has excellent food, it was very nice to have dinner in the garden. Staff is very helpful and service was very good. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Old town Piran is also near, you can walk there, or take a bus. Beach is just across the street, if you want to swim. As a whole, the city Portoroz is worth seeing. I remember that vacation with warm and I'm sure we'll return Portoroz and Hotel Marko.
